No, there are too many game types. FF_ will be the only (approved) prefix.

the only reason im for these prefixes is so when u join the game you know right away what type of map it is. HOWEVER this can easyly be solved by going to help > map info and hopefuly the map creater was smart enough to put in there how u play the map.

The devs may have mentioned something about a help mode that will show hints on certain maps if you have it on. It'd tell new players where the flag is, where the cap point(s) are, and so on. I wouldn't mind putting that kind of help in my maps, especially if it wasn't a standard gameplay type. So the gametype prefixes are a bit unnecessary besides being impossible.

You might not beleive it , but some people are stupid enought to not know what CTF means , so ff_ is just fine.

I wonder, if you're stupid enough not to know what ctf is, would you still have a chance at being smart enough to know what ff is?

Yah, map prefixes have been considered and rejected. The search tool should uncover previous threads on this topic.

TF is too diverse for prefixes. CTF, AD, CP etc are all fine, but it soon loses its meaning. Reverse CTF? rctf? Reverse ctf with security? rctfs? Shutdown ctf? sctf? You can see where this soon becomes muddled and largely pointless.
ff_ means that people can find maps via google / their search engine of choice. |

And what would you even prefix Scrummage with (tandem-captured command points without flags)? Or Warpath (sequential command points without flags)? Or Tempest (capture the flag with distance-based point system)? Or Enclave (reverse capture the flag with distance-based point system and touch flag returns)?
I suppose you could call Scrummage and Warpath “command point” maps, but their differences swallow their similarities. Similarly, you could call Tempest and Enclave “capture the flag” maps, but, once again, that would be more than misleading. Plus, I think double-prefixes (or a prefix and a suffix) like “ff_ctf_2fort” looks pretty dumb. Finally, it would be possible to just have prefixes on the “plain” maps, like 2fort, CZ2, etc, but this would suck too. New players that see a map without a prefix would go “Ewww, I bet that’s a funky map!” and never try it. |
