Comparable Hardware for iMac:

iMac is $1,200
Making the difference $265
Which isn't too bad

Costs to upgrade to comparable hardware:

When upgrading you don't need to buy a new dvd drive, keyboard, mouse, monitor, or case.

iMac: $1,200
PC Upgrade: $500
Saved: $700

You can upgrade your computer to the same specs for less than half the cost of the iMac.

Apple wants to charge you an extra $200 for 4 GB of ram

G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR3 1333 - $79.99
G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1333 - $139.99
Difference: $60
The video card included in the iMac is a 256mb model, the one you picked was 1gb. The RIPJAW RAM is one of the best quality and best value sticks of RAM that you can buy today, but I'm not sure on the minute details of Apple's mobo or processor. Part of their scheme is to tell you as little about their hardware as possible, and make it sound great, and hipsters eat it right up.

As for the optical drives, both my mom and sister own 15" iMacs, and my mom's disc drive died within a few months, and then my sisters died and makes funny/weird sounds. The LITE-ON disc drive you got there is one of the best you can buy (It's in my future build, as well as that RAM ).

I get what you're trying to do, but I don't really think it's worth it. Just look at all the upgrading 'options' you can get for an iMac, and it becomes clear that it's overpriced, and they don't even tell you the specific details about the hardware, essentially leaving you in the dust.

Only a product based purely on hype could sell so many units and tell you so little about the actual product. Microshit sucks, but at least they tell you what you're getting on the box. Apple just puts some minimalist hipster art on the box (have you ever opened a box from an Apple product? It's insane on how much money they probably waste on just the PACKAGING) tells you it has 'performance' hardware, and you're supposed to eat it up.

yeah no joke lol.

Macs are fine, but not for the magical overly expensive price they ask on their computers. Argument from someone saying "zune is pos" surely isnt ignorant .. nope.. not one BIT

I remember a poem about the Windows logo:

Red for the blood my programmers gave,
Green for all of the money I've made,
Yellow for the sun that brightens my Day,
Black for the hole that eats all your RAM,
No need to ask, you know who I am.

Do some more research. My 4GB for my laptop was only 50.

(Tell me what high-end not shitty computer pre-built is 250-500 bucks.

This machine is a hackintosh, cost? 250 bucks. That's INCLUDING THE OS.
Suck on that.)

I said don't use gaming, because it's not true, lol. I play FF on my mac, and any game you play as well I can play on it.

Fail, try again.

*spends premium for mac*
*runs windows and games on a mac instead of saving hundreds of dollars doing the same on a PC*

A HUGE "hidden" cost of buying a Mac is actually Windows. Most Mac users end up buying Paralels and Windows. There is also the overhead of having to re-buy all their software for Mac (such as MS Office).

22. Never owned an Apple product. Have used them when forced (ie: school), or to change music in a car when friend is driving, but that's it.

Nah, forced as in the class was for learning Maya, and they only had licenses for the mac version, so the class was in one of the mac labs.

Derp. They don't tell you on the box. Listing the exact specs would detract from their over-priced and trendy minimalist boxing. The specs on the box of my sisters Mac were very vague. Your average Mac user isn't going to search the Apple site up and down for the exact specs of their computer.

When you're running Windows, you're running a PC in a white box. Any problems you have with "PCs", guess what, you're part of anyway.

So, you can pretend to be superior... but you ought to realize there's nothing magic inside your box that makes it worth paying a premium for.

LIES. There is magic inside the white boxes. It's the souls of all the children Steven Jobs has eaten.
