The Motherboard of all motherboards?

Quote:
Two Nvidia nForce 200 chips? Check. Seven (SEVEN!) PCI-E Gen 2 x16 slots? Check Three-way SLI and CrossFireX support? Check and check. Put it all together and you have the recipe for Asus' newly launched P6T7 WS SuperComputer motherboard.

Except for the fact that its intel based (nothing wrong with it, I just prefer AMD) that is one wicked looking motherboard...

Upto 24gigs of ram... NICE!
SLI OR Crossfire (freakin finally)
looks like about 14 or so USB slots. lol
7 PCI-E slots lol (can you plug a 1X PCI-E card into a X16 PCI-E slot? If so wicked, if not then we could use a couple of those)

If this motherboard was a decent price and I was in the market of making a new computer or replacing old parts I would consider this mobo and even be willing to switch to intel and a 64bit OS just to take advantage of all that possible ram.

Nope. Completely different bus. It's not like PCI-E and PCI-E2.0 which use the same bus.

Actually from what I have been reading, thats not true.

A x1 PCI-e based card will work in a x16 PCI-E slot

Quote:
A PCIe card will fit into a slot of its physical size or bigger, but may not fit into a smaller PCIe slot. Some slots use open-ended sockets to permit physically longer cards and will negotiate the best available electrical connection. The number of lanes actually connected to a slot may also be less than the number supported by the physical slot size. An example is a x8 slot that actually only runs at x1; these slots will allow any x1, x2, x4 or x8 card to be used, though only running at the x1 speed. This type of socket is described as a "x8 (x1 mode)" slot, meaning it physically accepts up to x8 cards but only runs at x1 speed. The advantage gained is that a larger range of PCIe cards can still be used without requiring the motherboard hardware to support the full transfer rate — in so doing keeping design and implementation costs down.

So I answered my own question
