FF Community Q & A

This thread is intended for the community and your questions. The purpose of this thread is for you to get your general questions and concerns answered by the devs every week.

It's simple. Post your question below and I will present them to the devs and have your answers posted at the end of the day every saturday.

We want to make sure that your questions are valid as well. Posting a question is no guarantee of an answer or comment.

Example of a bad question:
Q: When will 2.1 be out?

A: When it's done.

Example of a good question:
Q:What are you doing to address the substantially weaker HW (compared to 1.11) in patch 2.1?"

A: Well, the first thing we did was emulate TFC's values and work from there. TFC's Heavy was a bit overpowered, but it worked nonetheless. The 2.0 Heavy is admittedly not that great and many of the devs and testers have worked hard to remedy that. We've tweaked the values and done pub and clanstyle playtests to make sure that it is a viable class in both scenes while still being fun to play.


That being said...the bad questions are the ones that won't get answered.

I haven't heard any progress on bots, are we going to see them in 2.1 or 2.2?

What would you say are the most stark contrasts between 2.1 and the mods previous patches as in are there any new game breaking/making things being added such as the heavy becoming important again?

Will the hard cap stay implemented as a feature if most people end up not liking it? If there is no hard cap, could you explain what changes are being made as far as movement goes for all classes in general?

Will Jimmy legs ever make it into this mod? Was it a glitch in TFC, or was it meant to be there? If so, if it's also added, would it be more like a server side config so those that don't like it can turn it off if they please?

Also, what's up with the Steam store? Is it possible for this mod to be listed, and if so, is it a for sure thing that it will be added there as a free mod for HL2 once FF 2.1 comes out?

The first five answers will be coming this week. I should have been clear that I would be waiting a while to collect answers for devs and let a small backlog of questions build up. We could always use more and the answers are coming to me when the devs have time. Look for the first five answers around Saturday, and in the meantime give us more questions.

Will there be more no build stuff put into all the official maps to stop people from building stuff in the spawn rooms and in doors?

Will the jump pad be killable like the dispenser and SG are?

Will all the spawn areas in official maps that don't have them get the no grenade code? Well and Aardvark come to mind as they seem to be the ones spammed the most.

Will Shutdown 2 get spawn room guns to stop people from going in them?

Will Crossover have its spawn room gun moved so that it can't shoot outside or at least can't shoot at someone who is by the front ramp.

Will Crossover have have the no fire bug fixed? (not seeing flames on spies and stuff is annoying).

Will the pyros flying ability be crippled? I hope not or at least not by much, as I like being very maneuverable with that class.

Will the bug with the demos and spys right click menu be fixed? Its the one where you can't seem to click on stuff or you right click move your mouse and it disappears and you have to do it 3 or 4 times to get it to work. Or you right click to disguise but it turns off your cloak. (really annoying when lots of people are around)

Will Palermo get better signage? Will there be maybe a couple more grenade bags in the map or at least one more for the defense to pick up near the last cap point? And has the bug where you spawn in the wall been fixed? Palermo bug, stuck in a wall

Will there be visual warnings if a defense system is down or not? Many times asking people if the lasers are down or not is no help as no one says anything.

Will there be a way of finding out where the flag is when its dropped? Many times its dropped and no one says where its at.

Will there be a way to know who is carrying the flag? Sometimes there are idiots that take the flag and runoff and hide somewhere. Or they pick it up and drop it then pick it up and drop it over and over and over again just to be annoying. When the flag is picked up and dropped it should say who picked it up and who dropped it.

Will there be points sharing for flag caps the way I suggested it a while ago, where everyone who touches the flag to get it back to base gets points. Share the cap points...

Will the SGs have better detection ability, sometimes they don't seem to see people. I've seen it at least 3 or 4 times already where I am standing within range of the SG and within full view of it and it doesn't attack me. SG detection problem

Will the problems with recording demos be fixed? If you start a demo after a certain amount of time in a game, your game will lock up and only way to fix it is to leave. And unless you totally exit to the desktop and go back into the game you will just get a blank screen when recording a demo after a map switches. Can't seem to run some demos

Will SGs pick up and track tagged players faster and further out then non-tagged players? SG picks up tagged players faster and farther out

Will the no name bug get fixed? People are able to make their name in such a way that it doesn't show up at all when looking at them and in the scoreboard it just shows up as blank section.

Will we ever get a All talk button and a Team talk button for the mic? After all we have all talk and team talk for chat.

Some of these questions are more important then others, but I thought I would just dump a bunch of them here and hope that at least a few will get answered. I had other questions but some have already been answered by devs posting in the forums.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but the voice chat is hard coded into the game by Steam. I think the answer is not any time soon, as I'm guessing it would require a lot of effort.

Whats the status on all the AvD maps?

Few more questions.

Will the boats on Aardvark ever have return code so that they will return to the water after a few minutes to stop people from using them to block stuff?

Will the boats on Aardvark ever be made so that you can't make floating sgs and dispensers?

I've heard that the concs are going to be tweaked so that it actually takes skill to use them is that true?

Is the Aardvark sniper deck going to get looked at to help stop people from spamming the spawn. (maybe lasers around the edge that goes down when the internal lasers go down).

Is the shooting though glass bug on a few maps going to be fixed or can it be fixed?

Is the shooting though Palermo main gate bug going to be fixed?
