DRM Bricks Gears of War for PC
More proof that DRM is an EXCELLENT IDEA that NEVER HURTS THE AVERAGE CONSUMER: Gears of War DRM screwup makes PC version unplayable
Basically the game had a time bomb. On January 28, 2009 the certificate expired thus making LEGAL versions of the unplayable. Turning back your system clock to before the 28th makes the game playable. As always, pirates win since their copies should work without a hitch. The only official response so far has been "We have been notified of the issue and are working with Microsoft to get it resolved. Sorry for any problems related to this. I'll post more once we have a resolution." The questions remains why the timer was set 3 years after release. Did they think NO ONE would play the game after 3 years? Was it a scam for people to buy a xBox 630 and Gears of War 2? If people are interested, they say they game still has a STRONG community for PC. I personally have been considering buying the game... but not any more! Last edited by Mooga; 01-30-2009 at 07:56 AM. |
