Blue-Pipes, a players perspective.
I feel that blue pipes in TF2 are done very well in that they shoot with a good velocity and you can actually hit targets, perhaps because the hitboxes in TF2 are so large, and the timing on them is relatively decent.
In FF, as demo it is frustrating to get direct body shots with blues, as blues do not shoot at a very fast speed, and often, when they do hit, they bounce off of the enemy. Now with the 1.2 second detonation, they det next to the enemy anyway, but this is cheap and removes skill from the game. Perhaps if the hitbox of the blue projectile itself is increased, as well as the velocity at which they fire, (which equates to more distance as well) the 1.2 second det can be elongated once again to be more like tfc (or tf2 even) and be more of a skill based weapon in that you go for body shots. I only mention TF2 because I played demoman for about 180 hours worth before coming back to FF and quitting the game, and i must say that bluepipes were done well in that game as compared to tfc or FF. They register appropriately and actually took hours upon hours to get good with, but once I was good I could hit a scout twice before he could kill me, almost every time. I would feel accomplished in FF if I could legitimately hit a scout with a blue then switch to the little shotty and get a kill with a shot or two. Now its like if the scout is anywhere near me my blue pipe will go off fast enough that it will damage/kill him. BLEH. Last edited by Hoopajoo; 03-18-2008 at 10:27 PM. |

The hitting and it bouncing off thing will be fixed, I brought this to the devs attention a while ago and IIRC Jiggles said he might have found a fix As for the timer, allows me to do things I otherwise couldn't, like juggling blue pipes into some guys face, then throwing one at a wall, waiting for it to kill him, it may be cheap but it'll work ;P

Making them faster would be pretty cool.

Mmmm maybe. I do feel frustrated playing demo these days because of the mentos bomb like splash damage.
I support (along with a few others I tihnk ) ripping off sticky bombs from that other game, that is the most amazing thing ever. Just thought I'd mention that in a thread about demo weapons. |

Of course it's always gonna be harder to hit a scout with blues in FF than TF2... the TF2 scout walks at the speed of the hwg in FF.

I thought he was saying it was too easy to hit a scout with blues in FF now?

no, hes saying that the tf2 scout runs as fast as the HW in FF, so its easier to hit a scout in TF2 with blues than in FF
