Final Fantasy XIII

I picked up a used copy for my PS3 on the spur of the moment today, and I am enjoying it so far.

It's pretty good, but there's a bunch of stuff that bugs me. For one thing, I have been able to get through nearly all of the battles by just mashing the X button. It also took me about two and a half hours to get a grip as to what the hell was going on story wise. The visuals are pretty good, but I can't help but still feel a bit underwhelmed.

Still, I am enjoying it. I suspect that "mash the X button" formula is because the enemies this early in the game are so easy (it's the same way with every other Final Fantasy game I've played). Also, now that I do understand the story, it looks like it may be engaging, although I still have to play more.

Well, that's my take. Anyone else tried it yet?

Haven't gotten it yet, but it looks promising. I haven't played any since 7 and 8 because I don't have a PS2 and my PS3 isn't backwards compatible.

FF13 makes me cry. It's a very very linear game.

I have all characters maxed out, even that is linear.

Yea, it is somewhat linear, but I don't view that as a totally bad thing. It helps move the story along.

As I suspected, the encounters are starting to become a bit challenging now. I'm at the fight with Odin, and he kicks the living crap out of me within seconds.

Use Double Dose (medic/medic) for whenever he attacks, then go into Ravager/Synergist or Ravager/Ravager when he starts defending (puts his shield up).

Took me about 18 tries, but when you don't really focus on the death timer or the Gestalt Meter, you tend to fare a lot better; at least in my experience.

Also change ATB Speed to Slow. Gives you a lot of extra time.

I'm excited about it, but haven't played yet. Not sure I'm ready tbh, 12 pissed me of b/c the hunts were fucking bullshit...
  • zodiark was an asshole and was worth fuck all when you get him
  • the last hunt was fucking ridiculous, took me like 4 days of playing to kill him and you didn't get shit for it (like some gold and some bullshit crap weapon)
  • and the fucking gilgamesh battle pissed me off, b/c I had no idea that you could steal from him each time after he changes weapons, so I missed one of the best weapons in the game. Because I only stole from him at the start
  • oh...and to get the best weapon...you have to NOT open up some treasure chests in like the start of the game. Which was shit, b/c I open up everything always!
