New pickup channel on Gamesurge (#FF.Pickup) - Page 2

played a few times over the last couple of days, liked it very much. Not actually played any fps since I stopped playing tfc 5 years ago but I will have a go with you all tonight

Try to get the word out about #ff.pickup. The idea here is to be running pickups all day long, so u can stay, leave, whatever. Ideally, it will be there when u want it to, and u dont have to stay for it to keep going.

I'm sure if we can get some server we can open up an EU pickup chan.

xeno.krusty is euro and has a private euro server. If we get enough EU players (we have a couple that play on the US servers with us) we could start some EU pickups no problem.

And also, I will be gone, starting tomorrow, for a week. Dr. Satan has access to a backup bot in case mine goes down, so the pickup channel will remain operational while I'm gone.

Why not have a steam group for this and use the chat room and events features?

Everyone who plays FF has steam, but not everyone has IRC.

Because there are no steam group bots. These are meant to be very very frequent (going non-stop with 1 every half-hour). Steam chat and group announcements wouldn't cut it.

And, IRC is easy to get and easy to use. You can even do it from your browser (Chatzilla addon for Firefox). You just join the channel and type !add (or wait for one to start and type !add). The rest is automatic or done by admins.

IRC is an incredibly easy program to learn (depending on which you get... I recommend mIRC) and it sits idly without taking up your resources. I've got it on all the time.

Most importantly, it doesn't lag up your gaming.

for some odd reason it doesn't connect me to the irc server. I've added it into my start-up commands but the window never opens. It is gamesurge #ff.pickup right?

yep...how many windows do you have in your preform?

I have about 15 and I never connect to them all, after about 10 or 11 it says target changed to fast retry in blah seconds...

that might be your problem.

i only have about 5-6. I don't get a message or anything, it just doesn't open a window.
