Devs, will FF get engine move after (I mean next update, not 2.45) closest update? Will it be Source 2007 or something newer, like Alien Swarm engine?

That'd be pretty cool. The 07 sdk is pretty sexy, BM and AG2 both look really good on it. Idk how much of an undertaking that'd be though, and wether or not it'd be worth it for us.

trepid jon was working on moving this mod to 2k7, but I think it was eventually halted since it was a pretty huge undertaking.

Don't you think that if 2007 port was in early stage it would be better to give it up and start moving FF to something newer? Post-2007 versions of Source run and look better. And FF would be graphically superior to TF2 then :P And the game will look much more modern, for me it's not good to keep it on 2006 engine because it's 2012 today. New people don't like old-looking games. FF seriously needs players to survive.

Bullshit. Particle effects and shadowing will do job pretty well. And as I said, Alien Swarm engine runs better that TF2 one. FF maps are already detailed enough for what they are.

I love this mod and I don't want it dead. 2006 engine is too old for these days.

2007 is the latest Source engine update with mod support. The 2009 (Portal 2) mod SDK was never released.

Squeek is correct. No engine after 07 had mod support. You can use the SDK to like make maps and stuff for them. But you can't go making complete mods to it, to the best of my knowledge.

alien swarm has an sdk including sources but it requires quite a bit of hacking to make it back into a FPS

it isnt really supported and has lots of problems

Well, you can even run Alien Swarm as an FPS if you want through console. And mods such as Missing Information and Rebels' Stories (something like Synergy 2) are now being developed on AS engine. Even with moving mod to 2007 engine, you will have to rewrite stuff like flamethrower effect because of the new particle system that came with it. There might be some problems, like what I seen in Missing Information dev video, where we have strider without effect on it's stronger attack, but it will be no doubt worth.

yea, that is completely true, but there are a lot of problems with it fora true FPS experience. I guess my point is, its possible but it's even more work than porting to 2007 SDK.

Ah man, I was going to link jons dev journal about the port he did but all the images dont work anymore

I've seen this dev journal back in the day.

And don't you think moving mod to newer engine might bring more attention of HL scene, since it will be one of the only mods on newest engine available? Remind them of this kinda forgotten mod? It will be no doubt worth more work. FF 3.0 should be something really big, you guys have 7 servers now, and that's not good. You need new players.

FPS expierence on AS engine.

By "newer" I meant "newer than 2007".
