should i finish this? (32smooth remake)
hi guys ...
half a year ago i started with my first map. It should be a 32smooth-remake. A few weeks after starting with the Hammer-basics and makeing the first rooms i got lost with it somehow. The original has that typical quakeworld-gothic theme. Since there are no textures for this i decided to give my version its own theme and extend the map with new rooms and more sneaky ways into the flagroom. But i ran out of ideas designwise and i underestimated the time to make such a map. I didnt work on it for the last few months since i had to work on my diploma-thesis. And since real-life will kick-in really hard in a few months (if im lucky enough to find a job) i need to finish it soon. Do you think its worth it? |

That looks really nice for your first map! Finish it man.
Leagues will certainly appreciate more maps being available, especially those based on classic tfc / quake maps.

The map looks nice but try using some textures that are other colors than brown :/
As for whether you should finish it, I say absolutely! Get it at least to the point where you can play it, and release it as a beta. You can always come back to it later if you find the time. |

I'd say finish it. Even if you didn't have the time- it's always possible to pass it off to someone else in the community.
This is way the hell better than I could do [seriously, I've tried. It doesn't look good.] |

It's always worth finishing a map, just for the satisfaction. (even if this map didn't look good)
But srsly, at least use some grey textures just to mix it up a little.

You need to export to smd (and then you do other stuff with it) to make Source models. XSI has a free tool you can use here: XSI Modtool. And there's also Milkshape 3D, which is $35 with a 30 day trial.

The modtool is quite strong for a freebie version of XSI. There are a number of tutorials for XSI -> Source integrations available as well.. But yeah, i can see the full Truespace package for modelling as an attractive option. Basically just google for Truespace and Halflife or SMD, Valve, Source engine. Etc.
