Smile RUSE Free Weekend!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/21970/

Quote:
Following the Public Beta, a few months ago, we received tons of feedback from beta-testers. It’s a great feeling for us to know that so many of you enjoyed the game basics and balance as well as the introduction of innovative features such as the zoom ability and the deception cards. At the same time we inherited a big challenge because of the amount of requests and suggestions the team received.

Thus, back in April, we made the hard but necessary decision to postpone the game to September in order to utilize this worthy feedback and ultimately, ensure that this game would meet the highest expectations of the R.U.S.E. supportive fan base.

Well… it’s been a while since then, and we’re now pleased to present to you many of the final changes brought to the game in this video broadcast, featuring Mathieu Girard and Alexis Le Dressay, Senior Producer and Creative Director of the game. (The video is long – it explains what we’ve been working on during the past months – but you can directly jump to the part that interests you the most by using the buttons at the end of the introduction.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cj6yZ7SHICY

If that wasn’t enough, we’re absolutely thrilled to let you guys know that you’ll be able to try these improvements during a 5 days Free Multiplayer Weekend starting July, 15th on Steam! You will be able to pre-download the game as soon as today, and more information will come regarding the content and game modes available, so keep an eye on R.U.S.E.’s Community Developer twitter (www.twitter.com/UbiLeak) to get the info as soon as it appears. Thanks for your support and enjoy the game!

The R.U.S.E. team
The team is currently having problems getting the game to preload from the Store page. Until then, you can wait for a fix or preload the game through the Steam client itself using the steps below:

How to Preload RUSE
  1. Go to Start and then Run (Start->Programs->Accessories->Run)
  2. Type in the following: steam://preload/33310
  3. Click 'OK' to begin preloading the game.

What is RUSE?

Quote:
R.U.S.E™ is a one-of-a-kind real-time strategy game that allows players to bluff their enemies to lead their nation to victory, controlling the action using views that range seamlessly from the heart of the battlefield to the full theatre of war. Players will be plunged into the action thanks to the exclusive IRISZOOM® engine which offers an intuitive interface that allows for smooth, rapid transitions from a birds-eye view of the entire conflict, down into the heat of the battle and vice versa.

In R.U.S.E, your brain is your ultimate weapon as you fight a war of perception, where your ability to deceive and mislead your enemy determines success. A first in a strategy game, R.U.S.E reinvigorates the genre by using deception to give new-found depth to the gameplay.

This looks hella cool. The transitions between views look beautiful and the gameplay looks interesting as well. Makes me want to not have a crappy pc.

The game looked interesting, but then I seen it was done by Ubisoft....

Quote:
3rd-party DRM: Ubisoft’s Online Services Platform. Ubisoft requires a permanent Internet connection to play this video game at all times.
And yes that was taken from the steam page.

So looks like DRM has cost them yet another potential customer.

This^

The game was awesome when it obviously had a few problems. They've reworked some things since then... Can't wait to try it out for the second time.

Well how else are you suppose to tell the creators that you don't want crap DRM? Telling them on forums? Been there done that.

Maybe if enough people talked with their wallets when crap DRM is put into games like this maybe there wouldn't be crap DRM.

And why should there be DRM in side of DRM, because thats exactly what steam is, its DRM.

At least with steam if there is no connection it goes into offline mode and you can still play and save.

Now onto why having DRM like this to even play multiplayer player is stupid. Though this game from my understanding is not just multiplayer, but also single player. Most of the following reasons are for single player but some can apply to multiplayer.

Net drops out for a second, you lose your game.
Want to play outside but wireless connection is not good, can't play.
Want to play in a plane or train or car or bus going to work or what ever with no net connection, can't play.
Got a modem? there goes your time.
Got a low bandwidth cap? There goes that.
Power went out, no net connection? Can't play.
Something wrong with the DRM servers (down, too many people trying to connect, or what ever), can't play.

Not everyone has unlimited high speed, always on internet connection. I know a few people in the US who are still on modems, one guy just got a wireless connection which is limited to 5 gigs a month.

And even if someone has it, it doesn't mean that they accept DRM like Ubisoft crap that they are putting on their games.

I could go on, but whats the sense, you've made up your mind that DRM is good and can't actually hurt when thats all it really does is hurt the paying legal consumer.

Even with a free weekend I won't let crap like that on my system because who knows what else gets put on there to "protect" their game.

I can agree that it's stupid for single-player. I used to have a shitty 1mb up/down connection that would die frequently. Now I have a godlike 35/35 fios connection. I'm very fortunate. The Free Weekend is for multiplayer only. If you lag out, the game doesn't kick you out. It stalls the game and gives you a time-out period before people can vote to remove you from the game. If your net connects in time, you can continue playing.

From what I read about it, it sounds like Punk Buster, which is another piece of crap I don't allow on my system.

it's 1000 times worse. And it's actually worth being paranoid about, unlike most the stuff you've brought up
