grenade spam wasnt even such a huge deal, it was the mirvs or it was the maps (low grens version woo)

plus grenade priming is a great and interesting skill

Using Babelfish, as long as the medic can see someone, they can heal them.

There'll be a new entity for randomizing areas that players have to take control of in territorial control maps.

Anyway, looks like it's not the Fortress we're used to. Now, what was that about accepting change, FF Elitists?

I like this news. The bigger the gap between TF2 and FF, the better.
This actually makes me more interested in how TF2 will play, rather than feeling like it'll be the red headed step child of FF.

edit: some guy translated it all

LOL .. forcing people to use skill with their primary weapons instead of running down broadway hitting the nade button as fast as possible. HAHAHAHAH!
Doesn't bother me a bit. Secondaries are still in. Remember the Video .. a soldier jumped from bat to bat on 2fort. All is not lost. Different melee weapons for all classes ... omg how freakin cool is that !

what i don't understand is that frag grenades were removed to deunify the classes, yet half of them still have shotguns?

I agree, the bigger the difference between FF and TF2 the more we have to look forward to in both games rather than just 2 identical games.

* Unlike in Fortress Forever, teleporters are kept in Team Fortress 2. The ammo dispenser will make a comeback as well.

* There will be a personalized statistics system. For example, you could see an in-game message like "Hey, you've never played your class as well as today - keep it up!"

* Valve thinks that classes in other games are a joke. "Where's the difference between me choosing a M16 or an AK-47 rifle?", asks Robin Walker.

* It would be technically feasible to let owners of a PC, XBOX 360 and PS3 play against each other. Whether this feature makes it into the final game is still uncertain and depends on Sony and Microsoft.

* Valve received very few threatening letters because of TF2's comic design.

* Owners of multicore processors will get additional, undisclosed, graphics details.

Classes

* The Scout can perform a double jump, as known from the Unreal games. That is, he'll be able to jump a second time while in the air.

* The Medic can heal team members from long distances, as long as they are in sight. Furthermore, he can make himself and his patients invulnerable for 10 seconds.

* Every class has a unique close-combat weapon. Even the secondary weapons differ from each other often times. Following is a list of classes with their primary, secondary and close-combat weapons:

* Scout: Shotgun, pistol, baseball bat.
* Soldier: Rocket launcher, shotgun, shovel.
* Pyro: Flamethrower, shotgun, fire axe.
* Demo Man: Sticky bomb slingshot, grenade thrower, broken bottle.
* Heavy Weapons Guy: Machine gun (mini gun), shotgun, fists.
* Engineer: Shotgun, pistol, wrench.
* Medic: Machine pistol, healing ray, bone saw.
* Sniper: Sniper rifle, machine pistol, club.
* Spy: Revolver, cigar case (PDA for switching your disguise), knife.

Maps & Gameplay

* Apart from 2Fort, there'll be a remake of Well.

* There will be completely new maps for the game mode "Territorial Control". It will be randomly decided which area of a map is supposed to be conquered and the team in possession of that area will assume the role of defenders.

* There will be trains rolling through the map Well, which should be avoided by players.

* Capture The Flag becomes Capture The Documents. Instead of capturing a flag, you'll have to capture a briefcase from the opponent's base.

this is true, but the game format is so identical and the psychics are so passive as far as, oh a grenade(BOOM) IM OKKKK! to a certain extent. that most people will view them as the same game in different versions(ff_well vs. tf2_well) i mean its going to come down to which one has the better feature gameplay. people who play TF2 will have to know about FF just because its going to spread through the community like it spread through TFC. people talk about such things. or you get one guy that plays TF2 and says this game sucks im going to play Fortress Forever. then people google it. done deal

Well, in tfc everyone but scouts basically used grenades as their primary weapon. Really only medics and engineers used the super shotgun all the time with soldiers using it after dumping all their rockets (which usually meant missing with 4 rockets, priming a nade, spamming the shotgun, missing with nade 1, prime nade 2, spam more with shotgun, finally hitting with nade 2).

I'm welcoming the changes. Hopefully it'll weed out all the elitists and the leagues in TF2 won't be ridden with stupid gameplay rules right off the bat.

Sounds quite fun to me. I like how people take random ideas such as invulnerability, then say its bad by using it in a TFC scenario. Im sure there will be other factors that would make invulnerability not as effective

All im really after is an FPS which isnt the same as the rest. x years ago TFC gave me that. Now whether FF does, or TF2 does, i dont really mind.

That said, i would really like to see FF do well because ive followed it for so long. But it sounds like TF2 is going to be very different to TFC. Which means in a way that both can be successful

Good point, and I agree. If the gameplay is changing as the article describes, then it's good for both camps
