We can't be fair unless we hear about these things. (From a dev).
More dev jernals would make us all happier.

Im just worried that if they dont release soon enough, they arent going to build a strong enough fanbase to live-out TF2. Honestly. If they are released too close together, im positive FF will fade quickly. Im sorry, its just the truth.

Atleast they could releease the current beta and just do alot of patches. SImular to I.I.

There beta wasnt so great. But with all the response from the community, within 2 weeks the game was up-to-par.

What difference does it make what time it's released?

You could say if FF or a beta was released before TF2 then when TF2 is eventually available people will be exited and jump to TF2, or vice versa

It's what a person will prefer in the end not which comes first.
Dumb thing to say.

No, FF definitely needs to release first. Whatever you like to believe that release dates make no difference, they definitely do.

Haha cock you're funny!

TF2 comes out first, it totally overshadows FF. The only people playing FF will be the active members here, a small population. The players that are sitting on the fence will flock to the first one out. Unless the first one out is really bad, or the second 100 times better, people won't be likely to switch.

The average player wants something that's fun. And the core group of guys here are all about the clan scene and hardcore playing. From my view, TF2 looks like more fun than FF, regardless of which is a better game. So FF really should push to come out first.

You can tell how fun something is from ~10 minutes of released footage (none of which shows any real straight up gameplay)?

Face it, you're as in the dark about which one will be more fun as pretty much everyone else on earth and are running on assumptions, and I don't think I need to mention what happens when you assume

That's not what I mean. I mean from the communities. The core of the FF comunity is centered around hardcore clanning action with strategies and all that, and TF2 is appealing to the newer players, so there will be much more happygolucky pub action.

Very true, but if say either are terrible games, it won't matter who the intended community is, it simply won't be played.

Besides, FF may never be a simple 'pay n play' through steam like TF2, but I'm sure the devs are smart enough to market the crap out of it on HL2/Fortress sites, and make the download/installer as painless as possible.

We're dealing with some pretty impressive credentials for the team here, it's not like the FF team is a bunch of first-timers

And nowhere did I imply that they were. This has nothign to do with marketing, it's got to do with who releases first, and I guarantee you it will make a difference.

Well once again we still have yet to see barely a fraction more than what was released for TF2: Brotherhood 9 years ago, so there's always the rare chance Valve could be pulling a full out vaporware on us :/

As it stands, I think any concern about FF being out before TF2 are moot, because it's inevitable TF2 will be pushed back even farther and FF is closer to completion in contrast.

This = the best discussion in this thread in 18 months

I think the discussions that TF2 is vaporware are pretty false. I mean they've shown us much more than the old version, and they will be releasing it with Episode 2. So to come out and say TF2 is vaporware is to say that Ep2 and Portal won't be released for another 9 years, which is also phony.

TF2:Brotherhood was talked about when Team Fortress was very popular. It was the game to play, and when nothing came of it, the upset really wasn't that spectacular. People were just mopy.

But now, TF2 along with FF have really reawakened interest in the game and for Valve to back out now would be the worst move they've ever made. And all hating aside, Gabe is not a dumb guy. He is very smart and has created one of the most intelligent and forward-thinking companies in the gaming industry.

TF2's projected release date is sometime in April am I right (correct me if I'm wrong, I don't remember at all). So suppose this time they're right and they are going to release it at the time they say. They've already pushed it back twice, so I wouldn't be surprised if they're right this time. FF has already hinted at releases and then pushed far back, and from the dev journals and dev comments, progress is quite slow.

I wouldn't really be all that surprised if TF2 came out first, given FF's current state. I would be less surprised though if FF got it back together and released next month.

But all back to the original point, I think it's very important for the longevity of FF that they release first.
