What we find annoying is that a few years back they were "nearly done!" Yet they have not released a tech demo or public beta. At least give us the fist level. That alone will keep people happy for a while

No it wouldn't. People, no matter how much they're told, will assume it's the whole game, or it's all they're gonna get, and they'll bitch. And bitch. And bitch.

It's almost like I was a beta tester. Weird, right?

Don't take this the wrong way, Cats.... cuz I'm still a big fan of the game, and I still appreciate the effort it's taken for it.

However.... to me, it's just another "valvE like" broken promise in a string of broken promises.

I'm very very sad.

They managed to release eight games in that timeframe is all I'm saying.

I guess the real question is, just what the fuck is the hold up? What are they waiting on, exactly? What could possibly be taking this long?

My guess would be real life? I assume none of them are getting paid to do this similar to FF. The only difference is, they want to release it when it's done as opposed to releasing it when it's nowhere near finished.

It's kind of like the dudes working on NS2 I'd imagine. Even from what little I keep up with it, I know Unknown Worlds has gone through quite a few different developers with both incarnations of NS. At least now they can make some progress with their opt-in pay program. Hopefully.

They have, they just released the map maker and it's very simple, reminds me of hammer, and I'm guessing there are plenty of NS players making common NS maps. I really can't wait for them to release the game though

Its taking long cuz there are so many flippin chapters. 17 to be exact. 17 custom made chapters. Not reskinning the old textures like most people assume, but a complete re-build of the original. That and the source upgrades that have happened over the last few years making them tweak what they had going on.

Oh and then there is the occasional bug that needs to be hammered out which in fact causes other things to break. And then the dissatisfaction or disagreements amongst the developers regarding scope/direction/standards that I could assume happens on occasion.

And I am sure real life girlfriends/wives/jobs/kids come in and steal your time away from a project that has so far done nothing for you or your career. Not to mention the fact that working on ANYTHING for 6 years is gonna sap you of motivation and inspiration.

Oh and don't forget the high ideals that everyone has on the mod, not just your own or your co-worker but also the fanbase. Anything less than perfection is gonna drive you crazy. Cuz after all this is like someone giving you THIS and telling you to give them back THIS. Shucks, you guys know all this.

Doesn't make it less disappointing tho eh? Trust me, I think we are ALL disappointed that it isnt out. Heck, I was there when the dev team started up back on leak free. So it has been a long road for me too, and I have only put in about 20 hours total work on this. I can't imagine the stress that the REAL developers are under.

How can ANYONE love something this long after this much work with no monetary gain? brb... I gotta go hug a BM developer.

Everything is sort of "blah blah pointless" except for this part. High expectations come from extended development times, usually. They keep promising that they want it "perfect" and that's why it's taking so long to finish, but honestly? I don't think anyone needs "perfect" at this point. Or, indeed, ever.

When I asked what the hold up was, I meant specifically. Not "oh they have real lives, too!" or whatever other bullshit BM supporters keep handing out. I mean, what department is currently lacking that they can't get their shit together? Models? Textures? Animation? Scripting? Dialogue/Voice? Music? Mapping? I can't think of even one reason any of these things couldn't have been handled within six goddamn years, even by complete retards with two hours of free time a week.

Ok angry santa, perhaps you are simply not getting what I was trying to say. There is no one particular part that is dragging this out, it is simply taking longer than they thought it would. Why? Because everyone on the team is NOT able to spend full time on it.

Be mad. Be dissapointed. Swear them off or offer support. I can understand all of those and I wont disagree with your feelings over it. But contrary to what you are implying, there is no specific department to 'blame'. The whole thing is just taking longer is all. You would have to actually be ON the team to really get it.

Actually, I have seen this happen. Folks come on the team, make their introductions and then they are slapped with expectations and deadlines and before you know it, you have a 'newb' to the team that is overwhelmed saying "WTF!!" because it was bigger than they realized.

Anyway... Just thought I would offer up some info for ya'll. Cuz I know there is still a lot of support out there and many are still looking forward to it.
