Custom map Clone hell?
Whats your guys oppinions on this?
When a game is sort of remade like FF is and for instance HL was there is gonna be many people wanting to "bring back the classics" Problem is, like seen in HL2 DM, it usually fractures the old custom maps :P Like the 10 different Gassworks and Killbox recreation maps seen for HL2 DM :P So, diversity is good, or fracturing is bad? :P |

Good point, this is something to watch out for.
I think that if they want, the DEV team should release packs of 'community maps' which include the remakes they think are the best. That way everyone has the same version of something and you minimize custom map hell (which will always exist as long as people can make custom maps). Also, I feel if people release a quality version early (a la badlands, 2morforever, epicenter, etc) that 3 versions of that map won't come out, or at least not for a while. |

Yea thats usually the problem, a sub par one comes out first, then they get "better" as they go (better is sometimes just better in the creators eyes though :P)
So doin the packs idea is good but hard, because if someone who makes maps sees a recreation in a map pack that he thinks he can do much better, the fact that its in the map pack wont stop him. And then what, everyone is stuck playin the "lesser" version cause it made the map pack first? :/ |

The devs have said that they might include quality community maps in official releases, which makes the mpas official. Everyone would have the official version when they updated. Of course, potentially, the new better version could become the official version and would overwrite the old one when a new FF update is installed.
So, uh, making community maps official is good |

Well, the nice thing about source mapping (especially with the new curvy detailed FF) is that making a quality map is tough and it takes a while. So hopefully the bajillion remakes will be avoided

Well the other problem in HL2(since it's a great tool for creating beautiful maps) is that two different people do make a copy of a map and they are both good. Each one has a different theme but both are so great that it's hard to choose which one to play. So then what?
