Seriously! The US really should back up Hosni Mubarak. Can we really risk letting radical political parties gain power in Egypt? What's gonna happen if Egypt becomes a religious state? Do we have to send troops to retake the all-important waterway?

Oh perhaps we just unleash Israel when the time comes...

In any case, we're supplying them with billions of dollars per year in support. They don't bow to the US, that goes away. And with it, any funding for weapons/etc.

The Egyptian prez has already given up his bid for the next term. Why are Egyptians still rioting? Do they really fuck up their country by entering anarchy? Are they really looking forward to an actual revolution? Most revolutions in history involves millions of citizens killed you know...

Just try to remember what happened during the French Revolution. We are seeing the same story unfolding in Egypt. After Mubarak has been executed, many political factions will compete violently for control over the state. A dominant party will wrest power and then do purges, before subcuuming to yet another devil.

And don't forget what happened in Iraq. Egyptians society isn't harmonious at all.

Starting a revolution without a chrismatic hero is recipe for death.
