Default player name
Small, insignificant issue you might think, but why are we still going with the whole WhenFFWillOut name for new people? Why not Player or something better?

I'm just thinking of the new players. "Why's my name WhenFFWillOut? Wait, this game hasn't been released yet? What kind of sorcery is this!?"
If you want to keep it for memories sake, just change your name to it. easy peasy. Last edited by KubeDawg; 07-06-2013 at 09:39 AM. |

tbh i like it adds a bit of character to the game. player 1 sounds stupid much rather have whenwillFFout however maybe if someone thought of a better FF themed name id be all for changing it.

Then come up with a better name than Player and WhenFFWillOut.
Because it also brings up bad memories of when FF Actually out. Remember when it actually out? Within a week of TF2. Yeah. Feel better now, Bully? Thought so. |

I was.
And every "Why is FF dead" discussion comes to the same conclusion: TF2. So timing of the release is pretty crucial. Ah well, hindsight is 20/20 and all that jazz. Last edited by XPelargos; 07-09-2013 at 12:48 AM. |

I cant understand how people are still so backwards thinking. To compare against another game or because of what happened 6 years ago. FFS get over it, move on.
It simply reminds me of daily reads of the forum and the anticipation before FFwasout. |

We compare it to TFC because that's what it was based on.
TF2 was based on TFC and did a much better job with art style, class distinction, and pacing. To not learn from what a superior product did is the truly backwards way of thinking. |

Sounds like you love tf2 a lot ?
First was "Because it also brings up bad memories of when FF Actually out" Your now saying we should learn from tf2 in relation to a default name. Maybe it should be whenFFwillsucktf2'scock ? |

The numbers speak for themselves.
If you keep thinking that copying anything TF2 did right (Different voices for each class, highly stylized art direction, damage counters) is dick sucking than sounds like you hate TF2 for the wrong reasons. And if you want to keep the new player name for a joke that's 6 years old then that is even more backwards thinking. Good day, sir. |

Dude your the one that started the comparison.
You are talking about something so small and insignificant here that it begs belief as to why FF could learn anything from another fortress game, by just changing a default name. No i don't hate tf2, i play it sometimes. |

But this isn't an OS issue. It's about the game. FF stayed true to TFC, as TFC did to QTF before it. TF2 went in an entirely new direction. Sure, it had the same class names, same map names, etc..... but the pace was slowed down to appease people that couldn't handle pure chaos. You know, the same crowd that made CS a huge success. Before you ask, yes, I've played TF2..... and found it to be too slow for my taste. It also lacks some of the gameplay mechanics that attracted me to TFC in the first place. Thing is, if you want to play TF2..... then play it. If you want to make FF into TF2..... don't bother, it's been done already.

I owe you an apology. I was not deliberately trying to jab at you, but rather expressing my dismay that so few people play this game.
I beg your forgiveness. |

You don't owe me anything. I wasn't trying to be hostile, just wanted to state my opinion.

Now that I've got that analogy out of the way, TF2 did succeed in bringing the TF genre to the masses and did well in regards to graphics, adding personalities to each class and making it a cash cow. What it failed to do was keep the soul of previous TF games intact. It felt like a completely different game with exception to the same 9 character classes. Much slower, no movement techniques, no grenades and an unfairness towards new players who haven't unlocked the best of the best weapons and items. Oh and hats. There's no denying TF2 is immensely popular, but it feels dumbed down and gimmicky at best and it is another example of graphics over gameplay and I think Valve could've made a much better game than they did. That's not to say what I want is a direct TFC port to the source engine. I just want to experience unadulterated fun gaming like I had with TFC and have with FF. Playing TFC for the first time was like playing Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter for the first time. Adding so many items to the game diluted fun factor of TF2, no matter how well they were able to market them or how cool they looked. Now they could possibly redeem themselves by making a TF3 that focuses more on competitive play by adding movement, grenades and the best of the best weapon combinations from TF2 for each class and maybe throw a bone to the old school style character classes and give them a fresh HD remake, but who thinks that would ever happen? New default player name: FF > TF2 |
