I use a Gillette 21-blade razor. Really cuts good. You can get your entire face in 2 swipes.

Here is a really good shaving site: Badger and Blade

I got one of these off ebay for about $25.

The Merkur Heavy Classic is considered a very good razor.

Is that a fuckin' shaving wiki?!

Mad TV's was like the Mach 10. With the description of the 10th blade bringing your jaw bone to a nice smooth finish.

I used to shave with those straight blades, took a long time to do it without nicking myself. But even after getting decent at it, it still took awhile to shave. I prefer to shave in the shower myself so I ditched it, and went back to a Mach3 or Gillette Fusion.

Best way to do it is to make sure your face is good and soaked with warm water. This is why showering is a good place to shave. What I'd usually do in the morning (since my job requires me to shave every day H2S gas and shit), I hop in the shower and sit down under the spray. I'll spend the time brushing my teeth while the water runs down the face. You want the water pretty hot. Hot water opens up the pores which makes the hairs stick out better. After a good teeth brushing your face should feel like it's glowing, then have at er with the razer.

Sometimes shaving with conditioner works too instead of shaving cream. Also real shaving cream the stuff applied with a brush that barbers would use is better. The stuff you get in the cans doesn't actually provide lubrication since it's not really soap based. The stuff applied with a brush is soap based, and provides more lubrication, this is why conditioner can work since it's soap based.

shave UP not down(against the grain so to speak), and to lower the risk of cutting/nicking/rashing yourself always shave AFTER you shower/bath, the skin is alot softer then..

at first i thought you were talking about your balls...haha...

Yeah I thought he was referring to his man-berries as well at first lol.

Only problem with this approach is it often-times leads to in-grown hairs if you don't shave on a daily/bi-daily basis.

Attempting to shave with Lectric+BRUT combo...

And until I get the funds for an old time shaver, I think I'll stick to the above idea. Cash comes to me ever so slowly. I have been using a towel+hot water to wet my face before shaving, it makes things less horrible.

Wait a minute... I can also see if my grandfather left his razor back in Romania.

Letric works well for me.

Just make sure notto put it on after you shave... it burns un-merciful.

UPDATE: Tried Lectric with Brut over it. Wasn't good. Putting Lectric on before shaving hurt a ton anyway from this morning's horrible shave.

So yeah I got a slightly closer shave, that same dragging feeling, redness, and of course the micro-skin peeling.

I am probably going to see if I can get Grandpa's razor from back home. That thing is pretty old, but hasn't been used for about 8 years now? Either way I'm going old school. My skin went from tolerance toward razor and close shaves to extreme intolerance like putting a scizo cat in a pen full of cute little puppies.

Fun Fact:
I shave my sideburns, chin, and neck with an electric shaver... And moustache with a razor.

Why don't you just get something with less blades on it?

I can't stand electric razors. They don't get anywhere close to "close enough" for me.

1) Make a fire in the garden
2) poor gasoline in a bucket
3) empty the bucket on the fire, make sure you are standing about an inch away from the fire
4) away goes the hair, and most of you skin, so no shaving needed even again!

Well, in that case something you need to keep in mind is that it's going to take your skin time to adjust. I can't use an electric razor because my skin gets too irratated during the 2 week adjustment phase. Your skin reacts differently depending on how you shave it. Razors tend to have the best result with electrics making you more grizzled. If you like the grizzled look, then stick with your eletric. If you'd rather the smoothe to the touch shave then give whichever new strategy you choose a few weeks before condeming it.

For the record, I read that article posted and made some minor changes this morning and I definately got a closer shave using the same razor I already have. So I may go out and get myself a safety razor and brush.
