tbh is more the sad state of ff.. at least on eu, one more folded clan, now we are 2 clans.. that are kinda active, so 2 clans = not a great of competition, no competition = claners go out for other modes.. begining to see this hapening

I haven't read the whole thread, just the OP and maybe 10% of cherry-picked replies. So all I'm gonna say is:

avanti

Avanti is the epitome of what FF pubs need. It's great for every class. Tons and tons of dm. Even league players can enjoy a decent round of avanti because you get to let it all fly. Due to the incline/decline of the map there's no confusion in which direction you're supposed to go. There's really no confusion or second guessing what needs to be done. Hell it's even less complicated and easier to follow then dustbowl and 2fort.

The OP made a great point, the maps will dictate the success of FF's pub situation, which leads to a bigger community.

No buttons, no lasers, no complicated shit. Save that for leagues. The simplest of objectives and an easy to follow path in where you're supposed to go. I mean, you could even flash on people's screens during gameplay "Move up the hill!" / Move down the hill!" depending on what direction their team is going. Once people start learning the game through those means, their curiousity will take them to the next level. Give them a taste of the classes without worrying about serious objectives. Let their objective be to go dm everything they see. On avanti, there's always going to be someone willing and able to carry the flag, let the other guys just go dm eachother and learn through that experience in and of itself.

This is a great thread, even though I didn't read the whole thing, I think it nails it perfectly.

ah good, thats nice to know satan. I really wanna help make things better for FF and I can tell that the people on the forums that post frequently feel the same. Don't wanna see all this good work go to waste, especially as I get enjoyment out of it.

This thread is great - and yeah dys is right.

On a separate note - I've got loads of free time now because I've finished uni for the year and my band don't currently have any gigs lined up, so as one of the key points people brought up earlier in the post was optimisation

I'd happily offer my services to anyone that needs a map optimising - or for anyone that would just rather I tried to explain it to them. I'm confident with it cause am reasonably sure I understand how the engine works.

Now that we are talking about maps, I've talked to Pon lately. It seems he isn't sure if leaving FF for good and moving into some other game (Zombie Panic, probably) or something.

Anyways, I asked him about Basicbowl, but he's not sure if he will finish it or not, so I asked him the .vmf of what he has at the moment, but he'll give them if he stops mapping for FF.

In FF however, this dynamic does not work, especially in pubs.
Honestly, this is why I love maps like dustbowl. A person can just DM and it still helps the team. Everyone except spies and engineers are running the same way, a new guy can just follow them and meet the enemy's front line and fight. This helps offense push through and defense hold them back. The people who actually know what they're doing can still enjoy themselves too by manipulating things to help their team win. Engi's can build sg's in key places, demomen can protect flags, spies and snipers can take out sg's, etc. Meanwhile anyone who just wants to fight helps too (assuming they're not playing a defensive spy or something). It's a real synergy I think TF2 misses out on. TF2 dumbs things down so you have to work together, some FF maps simply amount to people working together while allowing individuals to shine.

I could be swayed to port this to FF if you are really wanting to play it.

if anyone can get a hold of MikeQuist...he did like almost the whole flagrun map with maybe some texture shit to finish it up and he just disappeared all of a sudden...contact him and get the .vmf to finish it up...it's seriously almost done.

Heck yeah man! That's a map that would get a lot of notoriety on pubs pretty much guaranteed. Sway! Sway!

Well Im a bit rusty with the lua stuff so Ill just give it a FF makeover and see what comes of it from there. Seems like it should be pretty easy considering there are textures made for Avanti in the FF materials folder.
