CRASH PROBLEMS FROM VIDEO DRIVERS
-edit - If you are having issues, please reference this thread about removing drivers too: http://www.fortress-forever.com/foru...ad.php?t=11141
Like many others, I've experienced complete lockups and had other similar issues.I thought my video (9800 Pro) drivers were fine until I tried to run 3dMark05 last night. It would not run. Then I noticed the ATI utils would not launch. * I uninstalled the old drivers ( Cat 7.8 ) - using the exact ATI recommended method. * Installed the new drivers (Cat 7.9) * Ran 3DMark05 just to see if it would work - it did. FF now runs more smoothly and there was only one stutter that made me think the computer might lock up. However, it recovered in a few seconds. This was on a full CZ2 server with a LOT of action. Until now I always thought telling ppl to uninstall/reinstall vid drivers was WAY over-rated. I suppose I was wrong. 1. USE a driver uninstaller or follow your mfg recommended uninstall 2. Download the latest drivers It may not your time to try to run 3DMark05. It's simply a benchmark program that I could not run before reinstalling the video drivers. Once it was running, I knew I had a definite change. Now I just need more playtime to test this. *ATI users* 1. Download (don't install yet) the latest video drivers: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html 2. Uninstall old ATI drivers and software Code:
Removing Old ATI Software 1. Click on Start, then Control Panel, then go to Add/Remove Programs. 2. At the top of the list you should see several ATI entries. Select the entry entitled ATI Software Uninstall Utility, and click Change/Remove. 3. You will be prompted to restart your system once the uninstall is complete. 4. Once restarted, check the Add/Remove Programs list again for any remaining ATI software. 5. If any ATI software is still listed, click Change/Remove on those entries to uninstall each one individually. 6. Next, please scroll through the list until you find an entry called DAO (see screenshot below). 7. Select DAO, then Click Change/Remove to uninstall this program. 4. ???? 5. PROFIT! *Note - If you're going to install and use the latest ATI Catalyst Control Center, which is part of the normal ATI Catalyst Software Suite, you must first install the Microsoft .NET FrameworkMicrosoft .NET Framework (Version 2.0) on Windows XP. You can also get this VIA Window/Microsoft Update. *nVidia users* I got nuthin - for now. I'll do some reading and update this when I'm nVidia smart. I was saying it appeared to mostly be ATI Radeon cards that were having problems lol.

It's weird, I installed cat 7.9 and I couldn't run FF. I had to system restore to yesterday so I could keep the 7.5 catalyst... anyone know why? with the 7.9 version my game would just crash on the start of the game.

I have the latest drivers installed - 11.7MB 6.2 Feb. 9, 2006
http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/2k/radeonx-2k.html And the game crashes with different errors. My system is 6 months old - I re-used my old video card, the drivers have been installed since build time. Everything else in source runs fine - half-life 2 DM, CS:S, half-life 2 single player - all run with no problems. |

It does not matter IF you have the latest ones installed.
Follow the instructions above and at least give it a chance. If it fixes anything - great! If it does not - you have eliminated one thing at least. |

Before, I was running Omega drivers 3.8.360 (Catalyst 7.4) which are the latest Omega drivers, but FF was crashing frequently, either freezing or causing my PC to reboot itself.
I updated to Catalyst 7.9 drivers and now it works perfectly. Very glad. |

Unfortunately upgrading to >6.6 Catalyst drivers is impossible for me since ATI removed support for the radeon mobility 9000; so am currently playing with a 6.5-based driver.

Did you do a complete uninstall of the drivers before doing an install? It can make the difference. |

It's not the same for nvidia users I guess
I updated all my drivers, I tried with basic settings and I tried overclocking my GPU, still crashes (I can run other games smooth, so it's not my pc that's the problem ) |

I've been using the 7.9 drivers before FF came out, and have had no problems with them yet
For nvidia users, the 93.71 were official on nvidia's site for a long time, I would try them if newer 100 series drivers aren't working out (I havent kept up with their 100 series drivers much) |
