Pretty much any forum member who hadn't posted in the BAUD thread got an invite.

The thread was originally a joke but then got kind of out of hand. Back when we were on phpbb Mirv had edited the stylesheet so we randomly got weird backgrounds and colors. Good times!

Yes. Or he gave a lot of inactive accounts/spam bots the beta.

Although I have no say in who gets a beta, nor does my opinion matter, I sure hope that isn't true.

we came up with an algorithm based off the content per post ratio in selecting our beta testers. I'll let you guess who's at the bottom..oh ho ho :>

That ad made the picture worthwhile.

i think the key point you're all missing is that the pyro is ideal as a defensive unit. i mean, filling a corridor with great jets of flames is most certainly the best way to keep people from getting that flag.

even the players in the local public servers know this.

You obviously know nothing about copyrights and the fact that this isn't Valve Corporation.

The game isn't TFC therefore they could copyright it.

Given that pcgamer has threatened legal action against people posting scans of their magazine without their permission I think you should threaten legal action for them using your screenshots without your permission. Fair is fair, and Id expect them to settle since they can't possibly win even if you have no attorney.

Hi, this is Norman Chan, over at PC Gamer Magazine. I noticed that some of your members have posted scanned images of the Quake 4 preview that ran in PC Zone UK's latest issue. Would you please remove the post, as the scanned magazine pages are violating copyright laws. PC Zone is a sister publication of PC Gamer, and we ask that you respect property rights and remove all unlawful images. The post is located http://www.beyond3d.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16159

Thanks. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

RE:

Hi Norman,

Please note that the post in question has been removed, however there is not really much I can do other than that since the images were hosted elsewhere and merely linked through our forums (and can be through any forum).

On a slightly related note, I noticed that the October issue of PC Gamer as quotes from John Carmack and Derek Smart – both of these quotes were sourced from our site (John Carmack’s from an email to a Beyond3D editor, and Derek Smart’s from one of Derek’s replies in the comments of the news piece on the email from John Carmack). While I don’t mind our work being used elsewhere, there were absolutely no references in PC Gamer as to where you got the quotes from, or any mentions of Beyond3D’s URL – I believe this would be in breach of our copyright? (Note: Custom PC also ran a similar news story on the said quote from John Carmack about the software patenting issues and Creative but both included text noting where it came from and included our URL at the end).

At least the links to the scans in our forums were fully attributed as being PC Zones work!

Regards,
Dave
