An interesting video for the Atheists
http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchiv..._dont_lik.html
This video is interesting because it shows you how WE athiests are ranked lowest of the low in popular opinion. Watch it to find out what I mean. Last edited by o_tyrus; 08-17-2006 at 02:57 AM. |

I presented no opinions of my own on Atheism Etzell. I merely presented the opinion of the video. I don't really see how I was being ignorant.

Watch the video (its only 4 minutes). I myself am an atheist, I am not saying that they are low. Jeez, its funny how many people post their 2cents before they watch/read the topic.
Edit: p.s. Watch the video before you post. p.p.s. Watch the video. Last edited by o_tyrus; 08-16-2006 at 11:31 PM. |

Here. Let me throw you people a bone for understanding:
Quoted from the video (that most of you should have already watched before posting.) "In a recent University of Minnesota study measuring attitudes about minority groups, Americans ranked Atheists as the single least trusted group of people in the country. In fact, Atheists were listed below Muslims, recent immigrants, and homosexuals in terms of sharing America's vision of society. Out of anyone their kids could end up with, parents said they disapproved the most if their children married an Atheist. And half of the country won't vote for a politician who doesn't believe in God. Even if that politician is well qualified for office." There is more in the video, but this is just for starters. Again, watch the video before you post. Response to Paft: I never agreed nor did I disagree to what was said, I simply paraphrased / summarized what the video said, of which I directly quoted above. Is it not interesting? It being interesting was the point of the thread, hence the topic name. Edit: It's far easier to make an educated and intellectual response if you read the first post to its entirety and make sure you are well understanding what the original poster is conveying. Watched it earlier it was your first post that sounded almost like a trick post, Anyway.
I too am an atheist. Now there’s nothing wrong with someone having there beliefs but it's more real that religion is a made up myth and used to ignorantly explain answers about earth and life. |

religion's just synthetic frippery unnecessary in our expanding global culture of efficiency... Now we all fear this impasse we have built to our future? ever so near and, oh, so austere..." Last edited by o_garland-w; 08-17-2006 at 12:03 AM. |

i don't understand how someone couldnt not believe of a higher power of some sort. dislike christianity, islam, buddhism etc as they are "religions" (i was raised catholic btw but not cannot stand it), thats fine, but with how kick ass the universe is, i just don't get how someone would rally against there being some sort of a higher power.
it's interesting how many scientists, through their own studies, often come to their own personal conclusions that there's something out there, einstein being the most famous of the lot to propose such thinking. i think so many people rally against religion as a construct, and rightly so. so much of the strife on this planet is due to peoples beliefs that one religion is better than the next...i get that. it's just kinda sad when the reality is probably that everyone is wrong about the "true" religion, that there is none, and we still do not yet, and perhaps never will know the true state of things. you can still be spiritual though, even if one thinks all religions are a load of crap. i think some people think they are atheists b/c they reject the current choices of religion, and therefore think they must be atheist...not true. to be a true atheist one belives that everything ahppens/happend through science and w/o any sort of a guiding hand. i can respect that belief, but personally i believe we all come from somewhere/something. science and spirituality can exsist quite nicely. Not nearly as many rally "against religion" as you might think. I guess I can understand some of th reasons why people might be less trusting of someone who identifies themself as an Athiest.

maybe the term 'rally against religion' wasn't the best choice of words, but i think there's a large group of people who can see through the elements of control most religions exhibit and therefore think they are all bunk. and with left with no options that are appeasing, label themselves as atheist.
my opinion was just trying to say is that i think the amount of people who truly believe that the universe is basically a petery(sp?) dish maybe quite small. and perhaps many just havent found what they are seeking, but in the interim, perhaps out of frustration or lack of choices (and needing to identify w/ something **that's ok - part of the human condition**) thus go with atheisim. who knows |

I can pretty much agree with Puppychows first post. But because this is such a hot topic which I do not want to get myself involved in, I shall not continue.
