Yes. The once-beautiful and inspirational video game industry.

It's kinda how cell phones work anyways so... maybe it could be applied to games that require an internet connexion to play, like WoW for instance.

All I know is that it would be great for trying out games for a while without having to pay 60 bucks just to finally play a couple hours.
I dunno. I still think people would find ways to say they're incentivizing you to play for 30 hours a week vs your "usual" (absurd) 25 hours, to bump you into the next lower level.

Wait no. I actually didn't.

Nice try.

If you understood the English language, you'd clearly see that saying 'actively contributing to the degradation of x' does not have anything to do with the state of x in the past, or currently. If you think I'm making an implication, then, that's your subjective opinion. The simple fact is, I made no implication, just because you think I did, doesn't make it so.

Etzell put words in my mouth, and now you're repeating his fallacy. If you're cognitively dissonant, then yes, Etzell 'wins the point'. However, back on Earth....

I'm aware Circuitous is most likely trolling

BTW, I think the whole incremental income model for gaming is brilliant...the companies are, ultimately, driven by profit. It's just that I am not even remotely close to the target demographic for MMOs.

So, what about the word degrade has nothing to do with how something was in the past?

Because, I'm pretty sure that that's how the word works in the English language. Let's consult an outsider. Why, hello, Dictionary.com!

haha, if I made even a fraction of 50 million in 2 hours, I'd be quite content, and not feel in any way bad, because with bad, there is always good. If we didn't have stupid people, who would we have to let us know we're smart? Yin and yang.

When GenghisTron said "But then you'd be actively contributing to the degradation of the video game industry." he was merely mentioning the progressive status of the video game industry. He made no implication of the past status of the industry. For all you guys know, he could believe that the video game industry has always been in the dumps, but that still doesn't stop him from being irritated that it's getting even worse.

Degrade does mean to decrease in quality, but that's all it fucking says. It is purely progressive. It says absolutely nothing about the status of the particular thing before it started. I could say 'My health is degrading.' and you would be correct that my health was better comparatively before it started getting worse, but that doesn't necessarily mean my health was generally all sunshine and rainbows beforehand. If you came to that conclusion, it would be your own opinion. Stop putting words in people's mouths and better spend that time looking over a book on reading comprehension.

They offered something for sale at a certain price. 2 million people apparently thought it was worth the price and bought it. I don't understand how this reflects poorly on the game industry or the MMO industry at all.

$25 is not that much money. I think it's an outrageous amount for a pretend star-horse, but compared to the amount of valuable time people put into these games for similar rewards, it's a good deal.

There's like hundreds of pets. I could see if there was something really cool about the pet, like it gave you stats, or some functionality, but there's plenty of pets that are cooler, and you can buy them for a few gold on the AH.

It's just dumb :/
