Common Distances

Completely new to hammer, and am doing tutorials now. I have previous experience in gtkradiant and unrealed, basic room construction, entities, and textures.

Quick Question: What is the unit width and height of a player? What brush sizes do you like to use for general map construction? Thanks.

You will probably find this link useful then:
Valve Developer Wiki

You can find most Source mapping things related here. Also, General Source Dimensions, though the speed, jumping etc. are off (obviously), since FF has different classes with different speeds.

Take your entity tool and place the info_player_start that's how big he is in game to your walls.

There's another common distance I'm interested in knowing, the dimensions of a conc explosion.

Specifically, the map I'm making as I learn hammer, has the flag room placed above the main base entrance, and I don't really want the fr defense to constantly get conced as offense conc through the front door (like when you defend sd2 plank & offense is concing up ramp from beneath you).

So does anyone know how many units in hammer the conc explosion affects?

Cheers

I think there's lots of useful stuff we could use here, like the size of a conc/EMP so you can space your walls appropriately.

Rooms are generally 128 units high and large rooms like warehouses are either 256 to 384 units high. Just use the thicker lines around the 8x8 unit squares for room height.
