my website
I gotta make a website to promote my work as a photographer and I'd like to have opinions on what I have done so far.
Should I keep going in that direction or does it look silly? http://www.yannricher.com/ Choose french cause it's the only one working. |

I'm exploring right now. I don't really know what I'll end up doing exactly as a photographer. And that's one of the problems I have for doing the website design.
I just got recruited by a local mag but haven't done anything for them yet. I'm doing a wedding tomorrow for a friend too. If I like it, I might try to go that direction, dunno. Or I could try to get contracts for small businesses and the like. Bands that need album covers, model portfolios, etc.. So many options... and I'm completely new to the business of photography. Heck, I just got into photography a year ago, so I'm pretty new to photography itself. So yeah, I'm just exploring to see what would make me happy the most. |

The site is a bit too gray in my opinion. It could use browns and whites to make it more animate.
EDIT: Just looked through your favs... WOW. http://www.deviantart.com/view/17908194/ it was created in MSPaint. Last edited by o_tennovan; 07-21-2006 at 11:38 PM. |

From a design point of view... Really, really dont like the hover effect on the menu links, making it so you cant read them as you hover over, isnt cool. The colours are a bit dark and bland too. Normally for a photographer website, i'd say you want a white background as that will accentuate the colours in your photos. The code is nasty, but i can appreciate if you cant code, that using dreamweaver is cool. Just make sure when you finish it renders correctly in as many browsers as possible. Good luck. |

You might want to try this trick: For each button picture, make a new layer (in Photoshop/GIMP/Fireworks/Paint.NET) and copy the picture's contents into it. Then in that layer, Gaussian blur everything a bit, so it's all smudged, then convert the layer into an additive blend mode (terminology depends on the graphics package, in Paint.NET it's Lighten) and you get a picture with a nice "bloom" effect in it. Looks pretty funky. |

You only need CSS if you're doing image rollovers.

I'm not really good with coding of webpages... I understand that using css would improve the web page alot. Thanks to everyone who commented on the web design... I think I'm going to restart from scratch. I always tought it was a little too bland too. |

I know that whatever I do on the creative side is horrible and makes your eyes bleed. I'll tell you what though, I draw a mean stick figure yes indeed.
