Xbox Live - Silver vs Gold?
WITHOUT STARTING A SYSTEM WAR...
Let me start by saying that I'm NOT a hard-core gamer. I basically have the 360 for Rock Band. However, I have a friend or two who I would like to play with via Xbox Live. What are the REAL benefits of getting Gold? Can you not play games online with Silver? Any good free content? I do like the idea of being able to watch netflix on it... Aren't you also restricted from accessing the Marketplace while having a Silver one?

If you want to Rockband online, you can't without Gold. You can play multiplayer in your house for free with whoever else you want, but you don't need Silver for that.

If the PSN had a cost from the get go, maybe it would have been developed better and faster. While free, I can't say it compares well with XBL.

Yeah looking at some of the features Circ mentioned, it looks like PSN has quite a ways to go, although I've got Netflix now on the PS3, so they're getting somewhere.

And Mooga, the closest I've come to online multiplayer with a Silver membership is spectating a game of Skate. I couldn't actually play, though. If you want to play online, get Gold, it's your only option.

For just over 3 bucks a month, I might as well give it a try... I got $50 back from buying my Xbox anyways. My issues is just that I really don't have that much of a need to play online. Although live is clearly aimed at the more hard-core gamer.

The recurring cost was one of my major influences to go with the ps3 over x360. I payed for the game, I refuse to pay to play it online unless I get the same level of content I get from MMOs.

If it is any help........
I paid a homeless man to look at documentation on the two systems and to focus only on their online capabilty. I asked him to make a educated decision on it and to get back to me the next day. It seems that he was able to jerk off better to the xbox live online content offerings much better then PS3 so I guess Microsoft wins?

XBox users decided they didn't need a web browser all that much when they realized it'd be Internet Explorer.

Or they realized that since their desktops/laptops and phones all have them their gaming console doesn't need one as well.
