UGC opens L4D League

I wanted to let you guys know that UGC will be hosting an L4D league - you can find out more at our L4D home page at http://l4d.ugcleague.com. We are now taking signups and will be starting warm-up/exhibition matches in about two weeks. Matches will be held on Sundays by default, but teams of course are free to negotiate their own match time and day. We are currently offering two divisions with staggered start times - an East division that will start at 8:30CST/9:30EST and a West division with a later start time that will start at 9:30CST/10:30EST.

We are offering an organized competetive environment for you to play in. Any rules will be determined cooperatively by the players and teams. Now is the time to signup and start telling us how you want to play so that we can make that happen at the UGC L4D Forums or at UGC's L4D IRC channel #ugc-l4d. We are also listening to the community discussions, such as those here at the fortress-forever forums.

Sign up and give us a shot. We'll be starting warm-up matches in mid-December and work out how we want to do this together based on what the teams want.

I was wondering the same thing. I imagine a match is played over an entire campaign (should take something like an hour... sounds right for a match) and whoever has the highest score at the end wins.

That seems the most logical way of doing things.

Isn't the fact that the game is slightly random each time you play it too unfair to have competitions over? Say 1 team has a completely clean run all the way through, then they switch sides and all of a sudden there are witches at key chokepoints that fuck that team.

Is there a way to restrict certain bosses / other classes and happenings like witches?

thats not the only factor.. I would much rather have a witch over a tank. tanks can take out an entire team.. witches take out maybe one person. unless you can change that, i dont really see it fair playgrounds for a league.

it's like saying one team can play ovo and yard d while the other can't in FF terms.

The way I think we will start doing matches is this:

Each match will be played on one campaign segment, or map, in two Match rounds. Each team has one chance as survivors in each Match round. Match winners are decided by the best combined score after two Match rounds on that map. If a tie score occurs, a third Match Round will be used to break the tie.
Basically it will play like an AD map, with each team attacking once per round, as survivors.

On the randomness issue, yes that's a concern, but it hasnt been as much as I thought based on teh scrims I've played so far. Each scrim seems to be fairly balanced.
The best way to overcome randomeness is in repetition, so this is another reason why 2 full rounds on a map is played.

We'll see how it goes, it should be fun.

If anyone is looking for a l4d clan to play on for this league. Please feel free to contact me on here. I have submitted a clan for this league. Which consist of ME, my cousin, and some friends but im looking for more people to round out my roster.

My Ideal recruit would be

1.) Able to make sunday nights
2.) Vocal on the Mic
3.) Have a great attitude which is easy to get along with
4.) doesn't care if we lose because i am out to do this for fun if we win then that a bonus.

Needs a way to remove tanks from everything but finale's. Also, remove all witches or put them in consistent strategic spots on every map.

Scoring is wonky as well. Even performances can be about 5 points difference but a slight victory can be a 200-300 point difference. Map scores should probably be dumped and instead take in to account who won each round and give them a point for each round with a tie breaker third round if needed.

Also, should be two maps instead of just one.

tanks are the deciding factor in the match pretty much, and having that all decided by blind luck is pretty stupid imo.
