Quoted From CVG

Valve's Doug Lombardi told CVG today that Half-Life 2: Episode Two's release has slipped from Q1 2007 back to summer 2007. Lombardi told us that the super developer is "now targeting summer 2007" for a release. This obviously affects Team Fortress 2 and Portal, which all form part of mouth-watering Episode Two package.

The title was originally expected to hit at the end of 2006, with Valve confirming back in August it had changed its mind and was instead gunning for Q1 2007, maybe February.

The reason for the further delay to summer 2007 hasn't been given, but we imagine it's simply the case of Episode Two, TF2 and Portal being massive, and requiring extra development time.

it appears that you are 2-3 months behind everyone in news since this topic already was talked about in about 6-7 threads.

The old news was the delay to Q1. Now it's summer. That's news.

The old old news was Q1. Then the whole "bad news for tf2 fans, good news for FF fans" threads came. Those were about summer release.

How is this good news? I want to play tf2 too, and a further 3 month delay isn't really helping ff in any way. Not that the ff dev team consciously think this way, but it could also take some urgency away from releasing asap.

It's good news in that FF will have more time to build and solidify it's fanbase. It's also good that Valve will have more time to incorporate all the pluses, and eliminate the few minuses (sorry Devs, there are always minuses) into TF2.

I'm getting Episode 2 anyway, whether I like it or not.

Main reason? DUAL CORE SUPPORT

FFS man, that's like getting DOUBLE the processing speed in HL2 seeing as I run a mere 2.0 GHz Core 2 Duo processor in this laptop. Anyone who owns or will own a dual-core processor will most likely want to get Episode 2.

Also, comparing a more classic TF vs a more cartoony TF will be interesting. As well as this Portal game and of course Chapter 2 of the Half-Life 3 story.

I will get HL2: WhatsItsName as soon as it's out.
4 Players on a Nintendo Wii has to be at least a little fun ^^

*laff*

Multithreading in a game will most certainly NOT give you double the CPU processing speed. The actual performance improvement in any game would be debatable, depending on utilization, but as it stands, I think even expecting a 30-40% performance increase is optimistic. I would say 20% is realistic for Core 2, and 10-15% for Core Duo's/AMD X2's

If anything, there will be less physics lag, and perhaps less of a VC bottleneck for those of us with high-end cards

think of an assembly line, both belts work at the same speed but since its two belts and not one you can get twice the information through in the same amount of time. difference is, if will only effect load times. and stability.

you cpu can handle more calculation since its two mathmaticians vs 1.

simple really.

Indeed, for those who played Q3 you'll probably remember that it had a SMP compatible version, and it really didn't make that big of a difference performance wise. All though I'd imagine the technology of SMP based programming has improved since then.
