why not just make maps and release it?

I don't mean to be negative or anything, but in the interests of your mod gaining players, why not just choose models from the many in the game--combine could be pyro, for example, civilian model from hl2 could be a scout, sentry gun from hl2 could be a sentry gun here. I believe that all the gun models needed have an equivalent in hl2--even the sniper rifle is available (used by an npc somewhere in the game).

Why not just make maps and release version 1 with stock models? Oh, it wouldn't be all original, but you could release a version 2 later when the models get all done.

The reason I say this is, mods like this usually take a year or two after they are started to get released, because everyone is spending so long making models and trying to get everything perfect. Remember, the original TF only added a sentry gun model, then reskinned game models (standard player, grenade, etc.).

Me neither, Osiris. Barbarian, be patient, my dear, be patient.

Oh, and by the way, wasn't that already made and called HL2: CTF?

Because then it would look sloppy, and rushed. It would be more fun, and entertaining if the mod was a more creative and original spin than simply the game itself. What you're describing already exists in the form of HL2CTF which is interesting, but not really very fun. It also looks rushed and somewhat poor.

Also, there is no sniper rifle model. I was curious recently and nocliped to where the NPC's fire from, the characters aren't visable until after death, and there is no actual weapon they are carrying. Simply that green laser you see.

I know you may be excited to play a Team Fortress mod, but I'm sure you'll be much happier with the results if you wait until they're able to release a much better looking, and feeling mod.

plus they dont have a bunch of people doing everything, there are specific modelers, coders, mappers, etc so if you left out the models or something it would still take the same amount of time most likely.

All good things are worth waiting for, or some other philosophical proverb.

The best part of a mod in development is waiting for it and talking to other about it. Dreaming about it is the best part as well. This one time at band camp.......

The making of a mod is more than just models and maps, coding how the weapons work, coding how the grenades work, I don't remember there being a conc grenade in hl2.

Im confused. Do you mean release a finished map (ff_crossover, ff_shutdown2) before we finish the mod so people can run around? Or do you mean release the alpha version of the mod?

Either way its a really bad idea. If you release material that isn't completely finished some people will download it and think the mod is rubbish. They wont bother to download it again when it is actually finished.

Pretty sure he means alpha, God knows I would love to play the mod no matter what stage it is in, but I can definetely see where the devs are coming from.

For the first version we could release fortress-forever.txt which is a bunch of guidelines of how to play hl2dm in the style of the mod!

Demanding premature release is ALSO the best part. We want our FF and we want it now!! Don't even bother to finish at all! In fact, don't even wait to compile whatever version of the code you have. I'll interpret it myself!
*takes deep breath* Whew, ok.
Patience, patience...

I mean using custom maps and stock models until the models are done, if that is what the mod ends up waiting on.

What you're making is not a mod, it is a Total Conversion. A mod USED to mean using what you already had (Threewave CTF, for example).

How long you play a game doesn't make you good at it. Somewhere out there I imagine there is a 12 year old kid who can school all of us. :P
