Isn't rate the maximum bytes per second you will utilize? 30000 would be 30KB/sec

Agreed, but with the current community a clanstyle server just isn't feasible. For it to work, it has to be nazi-admined. Someone starts OvOing, they get kicked, etc. A passworded server might work, but then there is no reason to not just use IRC and organize a game (it'll be the same people playing in the clanstyle server, and everyone in the pickup channel knows everyone else quite well by now).

I gotta say this squeek..irc..is a pain in the butt..too many windows..too many commands to add or whatever..irc needs like an auto connect to whatever server the pickup is on..or perhaps a copy function so that you can cut and paste whatever ip and or password you need..just my experience..

mIRC has auto-joining for channels. !add is the only command you need and the bot PMs you the ip/pw for you to copy and paste into your console and hit enter.

All your dreams have already come true!

Here's a quick tutorial I have for setting up mIRC to auto-join the channel: http://www.ffpickup.com/?p=irc

Well, let me say there is a difference between connecting to the channel and connecting to the server where the pickup is being held. Connecting to the channel isnt a problem. Ive got that part. What drives me crazy is the fact that it takes me forever to put ip address and pw into that box that says, "add server to favorites". What i really wonder is if there is a way to auto connect to the pickup server?? I guess thats what im trying to find out. I dont know, i just feel like i dont want to keep people waiting if they want to get the pickup started. It seems like it takes me forever to get all that entered in. IMHO The following is the order that i do it.

1. Start Steam
2. Click Favorites
3. Click "Add Server to Favorites"
4. Leave blank until getting info from pickup bot
5. Start mIRC
6. Idle the channel
7. type !add
8. When pickup starts, slowly tab back and forth until i have all information (ip address) transferred from channel into the box that opened up when i clicked add server to favs. This usually takes about 5 minutes..people are wondering when im getting my butt into server..lol
9. Click server
10. tab back to channel to get pw..
11. Start playing..

As you can see, thats alot of steps..if there was a way to auto connect, so that at least we could only have to put the password in, that would be jamming..
9. Start game..

when the bot pm's you the server info and password copy it all into one line that looks like this.

eg:

connect 111.222.333.444:27015;password mypass
command -------IP------:-port-;command password

then in FF open up the console and past that line and hit enter.

*Edit after a few pickups, you'll recognize there's really only 4 or 5 servers used for these. Once they're added to your friends, the password is usually the same. Just remember the password and you're good to go.

Hell most passwords are easy to figure out. Even clan practice/match passwords.

We're not that original... why? Cause we're pretty stupid when it comes to remembering things, so we keep them simple, and rarely change them because if it got changed during a match and someone dropped and assumed the password was the same, he wouldn't be able to get back in.

you're absolutely right about the amount of servers holding pickups, i was thinking that i may already have the servers in my favs. Just a matter of matching pw with the actual server that it goes to. Titles of servers dont get mentioned in pickup channel. If someone says, its on fellas server or eO server then i know exactly where to go..or even kbn's server. Not sure if Fx server is still operating. There have been alot of changes in the community in the last few months..hard to keep track of..

Yeah, myers, the bot pms you a specific line that you can copy and paste into your console and hit enter. It will connect you to the server and enter the password for you.

When you get the notice from the bot, just copy what it sent you (it'll come in this form: connect ip;password pw) and paste it directly into the console and hit enter.

It's also easier to wait until the pickup completely fills before even starting FF, or run FF in a window until it fills. Once you get it down, it'll be an automatic routine.

Take a look at who started the pickup. That's usually a good tell tale sign on who's server it is (usually but not always).

Or what squeek suggested (which i've actually done a few times). Just wait a bit to see what server fills up and use the password supplied to on irc. Since there's not a lot of populated servers it's easy to sift through the one being used for the pickup.

yep if I forget to grab the IP and pw...I just look for the server with the same name of someone I know joined that game.

And generally the pw is pickup or ffpickup or fella4life (guess what server that's for )

This is actually my preferred method. Where i run into trouble is that from what i see, most of the time guys dont wear their tag. So, you dont know exactly which clan server to go to. Ive gotten familiar with certain guys and i know which clans they are in, some i havent met yet or havent chit chatted with. In addition, im not sure which clans are still active or even around?? Other than that, i manage. Takes a bit longer, but i get in..

Yea, true
IRC is just a pain in the ass for me, im either slow or lazy, or both, but shit, like was said, too many windows, too much shit to do. I want to play, not fiddle with that crap
