Comp play and demos

Hello. Been really digging FF lately. I was wondering if there are very many people that play this competitively. This is the forum for leagues and clans, so I was assuming so. So do any of you play comp pickups or anything of the sort? And do you record demos of them?

I'd be really stoked to make a FF frag. This game is just so fast and diverse the game play looks really amazing.

I've made a few short Tf2 frags. I can link you to my youtube if you want to check out my credentials.

Also I think a decent frag could be fairly good advertisement for this game, to better get the word out and show of the better side of FF game play.

Pickups are played in #ff.pickup on the Quakenet IRC server (http://www.ffpickup.com). SourceTV demos can be found here: http://pickup.pwnz.it/Demos/

There have been videos made by pickup players, though none recently.

(Can't bear to watch that old conc effect though!)

Am I missing something with demo playback here? I went to play a demo I recorded today and it just played a black screen. Pulled up the demo gui with shift f2 and it was playing ticks, but just a black screen.

So then I go to your link to look for demos and find one labled that it was uploaded today and my console said failed to read demo header?

Sometimes demos can bug like that where they only play a black screen when you first load them. To fix this, use demoui and skip to a specific tick number (or use gototick in console). Any tick number above zero should work.

About the SourceTV demo your downloaded, you may have tried to download a demo of a game in progress? I'm not sure. Try another one. Or try one from the cobs folder. I'm not sure the status of uploading SourceTV demos atm, but I believe the ones in the cobs server folder should work.

Ah yes, that worked for my demo. I'll see about grabbing a couple more from that site and see if I can't get them to work.

Ok sorry if I'm overloading you here. I've noticed that when recording at a high fps that the sound gets out of sync. Is that a pretty common thing? I've noticed in the videos you posted there was no ingame audio. I was wondering if that's why.

I dl'd a demo from cobs folder. But if I'm going to be editing footage I'm looking more for POV demos. As I noticed the first person specing of that server demo didn't show view models.

Also, hmm, I don't know much about this type of thing. But I was wondering if there's any way to crank the graphics up any higher than the options menu allows? I mean like, I want them cranked up stupid high to the point where it'd be pointless to even play like that. There's a recording tool for tf2 that, when you're recording, switches your cfg to a super high graphics one. I know there's no program of the sort for FF, so I'm looking for a manual way to pump out that kind of quality. Maybe if there was a config I could get set up and bind it something.

And a question about the actual pick ups. Is it pretty standard to play competitive matches with all talk on? Doesn't that just kind of ruin any kind of team strategy building?

Alltalk is off during pickups.

Not totally sure what you mean, or what method you are using to record. Using this method has worked for me: http://forums.fortress-forever.com/s...ad.php?t=20364

Yeah, SourceTV demos are a bit wonky in FF. In terms of first-person, you'd have to ask specific players to record and send their demos to you.

Not sure about this. I would bet the graphics options you're talking about are specific to the Orange Box engine, which FF is not on.

SourceTV plays all voice regardless of the alltalk setting. Alltalk is off while we play.

Ok. Thanks a load you're being very helpful. The main reason I started this thread was to see if I could get anyone to give me some POV. I'd actually really like to make a FF community frag, rather than focus on one person. So do a lot of people playing pick ups post here that will see this thread? Or is there somewhere else I should look?

Also with the graphics. What I'm trying to ask is, are there any ways to turn up the graphics through console commands to settings higher than the menus allow? I would imagine there are ways to get a better max settings out of this game. When I look at the Official FF videos they look like they have a slightly better video quality than any videos I've seen and anything I've come up with so far.

I think that comes down to post-processing, but you'd have to ask the people that made the videos.

As for getting people to record first-person demos, you'd have to ask people in #ff.pickup.

Yeah you can only do so much in post processing. Like you can doctor stuff up, but you can't make the actual graphics any better. I'll have to do some research on the matter.

Thanks for all the info though.

I just fixed some SourceTV demo bugs (viewmodels not being drawn and not being able to move in freelook mode). The fixes will be in the next patch.
