Community Project - ff_crazygolf

Headzy and I have co-ventured into a project ff_crazygolf and we would like the community to join in! We are looking for holes to be made by the community to be added to the map.

This is a low stress project. Which means you can make your hole as complex or simple as you like, You can make one or as many holes as you want. You can be credited however you like, (usually by a message upon entering your hole). We are using cartoonish theme (Thanks to Bisounours Party). A texture/model pack and prefab hole will be provided and it is encouraged that you go along with our theme.

Here is a short demo of Headzy and I testing the first two holes we have so far. Hopefully it will give you an idea of how to style your hole.

If you would like to participate here are some guidelines:
  • Make an "info_teleport_destination" named "Ball" for where the ball will spawn
  • Make an "info_teleport_destination" named "Golfer" for where the golfer will spawn.
  • Use the "hole_prefab" included.
  • Use the textures/theme provided. Any other hl2/ff materials can be used within reason.

After you are finished with your hole, send your .vmf to me, headzy or post it here. We will put them all together and figure out the rest.

This is an awesome idea. Hopefully a few people contribute. I might try to, but I'm rather horrible at mapping.

you don't need to make anything fancy. Just a skybox with a pathway and couple bumps, ramps, whatever. If you need any help send me a message.

@hir That is the good thing about this map, very easy to make a basic hole that is also fun, this community map is all about the fun and community participation aspect and not about who is the better mapper so go for it.

@mofo the skybox is "sky_cyan" not sure what rookie has set the light_environment too but I just use default and set to -90 for my own compile tests, then I send my holes ( vmf's ) to Rookie to compile into what has already been made for a quick play test.

Rookie will arrange everyones holes from easy progressing to harder when we have enough, 18 would be nice in total.

It's great to see more people getting on board

The skybox and the light environment are just what I threw in there. If you have a better suggestion for lighting or the skybox, I'd open for suitable changes.

light_environment
  • Pitch: -81
  • Brightness: 255 255 128 200
  • All Other: Default
Here is a link to the skybox textures I'm currently using - sky_cyan.zip

I also might put together a 3D skybox. Maybe just hills or some giant mushrooms or something if I can get it to look decent on all the holes.

Entities and need a trigger_ff_script made

Rookie: Can you make a brush trigger so that when the ball goes into the drink (water hazard) it respawns to an info_teleport_destination? Shouldn't be a problem for the player just the ball.


Also: IT isn't perfect but I like these values for the light_env, env_sun and shadow_control, makes the lighting and shadows more believable.

Light_environment:

The ball is a player itself with a ball model. So any teleports will work like any other player. If you just want the ball to go back to the starting position just point it at the ball teleport destination. When you send me the file ill check everything and make sure it all works correctly. After i compile it we can always check it out together. I'll try your lighting suggestions and see how they work out.

Well you can invite one of your friends in and shoot them around and see how that works or you can just assume it works if its not too complex.

We have around 8 holes at the moment - I encourage people to join in, your hole doesn't have to be complex.

Rookie, did you fix the crashing issue you were having? (Won't be able to log onto steam for a while, so I'm asking here.)
