So it pops up for a second, then goes back down... just like when a friend joins a game.

I have the pop up notifications for when friends come online turned off for that very reason. I don't like pop ups, even if it's out of the way and in the corner of my screen.

OH MY GOD you can turn that off?!

*runs around excitedly*

And yes, I suppose once a day is a bit much, though at the same time, doing it once a day and having that popup for a few seconds might catch way more people and get more attention from more people than once a week (more people will see it if it comes on each day).

3-4 times a week would suffice, I think.

Yes, oh my god -- for chat I suppose it's okay, because I would never check until I'm out of game and by then it would probably be too late for the conversation, but every time someone logs on and/or joins a game... it's a pain.

Also, I've been thinking about eventually making some sort of FF Olympics where you have different skill map tournaments. I'm tired of seeing the same ole game modes being played and skill maps not being taken more seriously.

My clan in TFC had their own Olympics and it was loads of fun and it brought a lot of people into our server.

Maps like conc_speed2, quad_tyrant, ff_heavy-machinery, ff_esxape-basex1, trimp_bluez, quad_palacez, climb_egypt come to mind, although it'd be cool if we had a conc_strafe map as well as a conc_2v2 map.

I'll probably go back to playing pubs after my exams are done. I don't know if anyone's noticed my periodic absences from the community, but my focus tend does to drift between different activities.

And everyone, remember rule zero of online communication, "don't be a dick"! That will quickly turn off any new players which the learning curve doesn't.

Oh, it's on, baby.

And FDA, this was meant to plan for a 2.5 release. Once the embarrassing chapter of the laser grenade is swept under the floor, I will absolutely go for it.

And +1 for skill map competitions. I will send you California homegrown herb if you fucking release conc_slidez, zE!

I just turn off the gosh darn beeping I absolutely hate it while it can be useful sometimes just not worth it. my washer/dryer already beeps until you shut it the fuck up. (preferred tool ie: Hammer)

heck I hate the standard beeping timer in FF. However I didn't know that I could change it to something else until just a few days ago, or just turn it off.

Yesplz to skill-map tourneys. Nobody trimps anymore, and I'd love to race some people in rjumps too. Once we get another skill server up, I'll prolly hang out there a bunch.

I'm not sure there will be a skill map any time soon,

unless...

you know, there are quite a few servers in FF that are rarely (if at all?) used, so why not talk to the owners of them to see if they'd be interested in being taught to set up a skill server, and then doing so? It's one of those things that we'll probably only get if we go actively for one.

Bump. Now that FF is finally WillOut-ing, I'd like to remind people that if we have a good number of servers filled on the first week, it might keep people around. As I understand it, there are no dedicated skillmap servers, but Moto's has some skill maps. Just reminding people that first impressions count and if the community seems alive and active then it will help keep people around.

Fingers crossed!
