x Solids not loaded due to errors in the file

Hammer hates me!

No, here's the situation;

I have a structure that is square, with like 4 pillars at each corner. On top of each corner is a dome that looks like this:

http://www.dctrs8tn.com/images/FF/dome.jpg

so right now the dome is solid, and inside each dome is another solid dome, just smaller in proportion. And everything is hunky dorry. Now when I hollow out the domes (ctrl+h) to 8 units, save, and reload, hammer deletes shit b/c it can't render it properly. Which fucks everything up.

SO is there anyway to get around this in hammer? And if not, is there a simple way that I can take the brushes I have and convert them to models w/out needing a brand new and complex program that I have no idea how to use and / or learning how to model?

i think there are 2 ways to do it, first redo that thing in many brushes not in just one rebuild it, or u may try it as a displacement.

btw i know that problem very well, dont want to know how often i had to redo stuff in alchimy

O_o I never even thought of using it as a displacement!

Edit: lol I'm an idiot, that doesn't work b/c it's not 4 sided

Brush method:
1. Place a sphere or sideways cylinder in the desired shape of your dome. This is temporary, and will act as a guide.
2.Use the arch tool to make a horizontal, 360 degree ring around the window opening. This will be one facet of the dome, so make it short. It can be as thick as you want. The indide of the arch should be the size as your guide.
3. Clone the arch so you have several rings stacked on top of each other. Make this stack about as tall as your guide.
4. Select all your arches and go into vertex mode. Starting with the top of the first ring, select all vertices in one level. For instance, you will select the top edge of the first ring, and the bottom edge of the second ring.
5. Press Alt-e. This gives you the vertex scale tool. Typing in a number lower than 1.0 will cause your selected vertices to shrink. Tweak that number until the edge matches up with your guide.
5. Repeat this on each ring of vertices, getting smaller each time. You can move each ring of vertices up or down with no problems.
6. Don't try to scale the last ring to zero. When you get to the top of the dome, just cap it off with a block.

Displacement method.
1. Make a square box out of 5 brushes--4 walls and a top. These brushes should not butt against each other like a normal room, but just meet at the corners. That is to say, the inside faces of the box should share an edge.
2. Clone the 4 walls and place them right below the box, touching the original walls.
3. Open the face Edit tool, and select all the faces that are visible from inside the box--9 in all.
4. Open the displacement tab and click Create. The selected faces will turn into displacements, and all the other faces will disappear.
5. Click Subdivide. All the displacements you have selected will turn round.
6. Delete the lower 4 walls. They have served their purpose.
7. You now have a displacement dome. You can move these brushes around and resize them as you like.

yeah I know I'm terrible, but I was out of options. Anyway, I'm gonna play with it today and see what I can't get. I noticed that the brush I'm using doesn't really mesh with the pillar anyway, so I might end up having to redo that whole area . And if so then I'll just make it something different.

Or I might just edit the existing brush to fit and have you make me a model or something. We'll see lol/

yeah, the dome idea just isn't gonna work so I'm gonna just redo the whole area and make it better.

Thanks for the help tho, that displacement stuff reminded me I know how to make more circular corners and stuff so that'll happen now!
