We borrow ideas whenever they are fun or fit what we are trying to achieve. Like Mario Bros. We put a fun feature from Mario in the beta.

Sometimes one of us will come up with a "new" idea, and someone will pipe up, "That's just like (TF2, UT, Starcraft, etc.)". That's a little discouraging, but it's not a bad thing because what works in one game can work in another.

Improving graphics across the board requires more talent, which is best recruited from our players (more dedication). So in the meantime we need to work on the gameplay.

Im trying to drum up some attention in my clan, but its rather small, i might only get one persont o stick with it, but if anyone listenes, we might get maby 5 to at least TRY ff, the only problem i have seen so far with this game over tf2 was a glich i had been getting (in both games) where it stoped dling map files, instead just booting the game, it started working again when i joined a map that rotated to a custom map, idk how that fixed it though.

ah! cool cool hope you like it. Lets us know the thoughts of yourself and any friends who do try FF. First impressions are invaluable to us! They frequently confirm whether we're working on the right things or show us new problems we hadn't considered

I could maybe try and get some back for 2.4, but since the reason they left was because defense has gotten too weak has that really changed any? Do people think it's STRONGER since 1.11?

that is pretty much what a blog would say we are working on always. That's it.

Yes, new things are being added and stuff is being changed/removed/revamped, but ultimately everything we are doing is moving toward making the game more intuitive and balanced and getting rid of as many hidden mechanics/skills that a new player has no idea exists unless they have played TFC for years or play the game for an extended period of time. While still maintaining the current player base and not alienating them from the game by removing all or most of the things they love and/or have mastered over years of playing.

Seriously, one of us could post that each week in a dev journal and it would cover everything that is going on. Anything more than that is going to:

a) take up time none of us have
b) be construed wrong 98% of the time
c) probably cause more harm than good b/c people aren't going to understand most of the stuff w/out playing it or at the very least reading the discussions that led to it.

To answer the posters question, yes the game is dead. It has been out for a long time. The devs are making the game easier to attract new players but this is stopping the current players from enjoying the game. No new players will play because none of the current players play. It's a dead end that will not be resolved unless serious marketing is undertaken.

Can I also add that I noticed a HUGE drop in active players when me and Caroline were banned from the O-T Server (mainly caroline).

in my point of view, the game doesnt exist to be played in public servers mostly, it never did. except the first versions of tfc prolly

but tfc had a respectable amount of players and succeded with even having proper clanstyle gaming pub servers. that was actually a reward to this game. CTF and/or AvD pubs. i remember clanstyle public servers that were real fun, there were admins to make sure everybody doing their jobs ingame. each map was being played according to its game plan (3v/4v/5v *with a lil flexibility to make sense)

this game means a proper teambase gaming to its fans and i believe they are who make this game, support this game, played this game in a proffesional way..

the game which is now being played in public servers(not sure about US pubs but have a quite opinion that its similar) is very chaotic and not that different than any other fps game, no teamplay/no OvD etc. such basics shouldnt be ignored to have a quality time in this game. i believe most important thing missing is a purpose in pubs.

at this moment the point in having public servers is getting more players. letting them learn and like the game and later, having them in proper CTF playerbase.

and btw, theres a sad situation in last couple of months social drama kills this game!

The playerbase is so small that it's hard to avoid social drama unless you (like a normal person on the internet) wouldn't give a shit. That's why drama ensues quite often.

I think you can see there's enough people that do care about this game just from the responses to a thread such as this

I just found this mod in my periodic surfing on moddb.com and currently downloading. IMHO TF2 sucks my left nut! I was a big TFC fan back in the day, even watching that trailer on the moddb page I was already thinking "hey, that looks like an updated version of the map Well". It would be nice to see this mod make a comeback at some point as TF2 really disappointed me after all those years thinking that game was dead then it when I gave it a try on a friend's pc, I never wanted to play it again. Gameplay was too slow and too much extra unneeded crap added to the game.

just my thoughts.

So your taking the blame for not being able to behave on someone else server. I think you are over estimating your nuisance value as to the effect on FF as a whole.

It´s not that bad imo, in 2.2 i remenber you had to join a server and wait there alone to get some players, at least now you have always populated servers in euro / us where you know there will be players at.
Anyway when theres a new patch out with new features you see a boom in players and leagues tend to start because of that, then after some time the playerbase decreases, but just look at modb a lot of awnsome mods with less players then ff : P . And imo this last patch was a bit fail, it didnt bring anything substancial new, and just tuned down the engy.
And lol wak, what the fact with you beyng banned have to do with less players : P Aayway the fact is that back in the day, you had basicly cs or tfc, now all games out almost weekly base come with multiplayer version, not enought people for the hundreds of games out there D :

Yeah I dunno, on one side they probably are eliminating some players and can occasionally be overzealous about some things, on the other hand, I'm guessing most of their bans are justified and make for a more civil environment. I've played O-T off and on for a long time and have never been banned, though I got kicked twice. Once for spamming in fightyard (which I thought was silly, it's practically a DM map), and once for being AFK (oops). I have seen some kicks for guilt of association with one player causing trouble, but it's been very rare.

And yeah, 2 players not playing one server I doubt makes any difference at all regarding the mod.

You've always been welcome, btw, the AFK thing is automatic and isn't logged... Seen a few guilt by association because there were mistakes in who was doing what, but those are fixed pretty quickly after people explain... only seen a few of those over the years too.

One time I tried rrrrreeeeeeeallllyyyyyy hard to convince every gamer I knew that FF was worth playing and playing hard. Then I realized that I'm a busy college student and nobody fucking cares what I have to say. Also TF2 came out..did you guys know that the sniper in that game is an Australian guy? How delightful!

P.S. This discussion has been going on yet not progressing at all since about November 2007..if I may declare the moral of the story:
bring your friends.
Also, TLDNR.
