Water Ice On Mars!

So there's ice on mars, and it's not CO2 ice, it's H2O ice.

Some readers have asked, how do we know the white substance is not frozen CO2 (dry ice) instead of frozen water? Answer: Phoenix's landing site is too warm for dry ice. The average daily temperature is about -70 F while dry ice requires temperatures lower than about -109 F.

w007! I wonder if there's huge stores of it under the dust or what.

This might make a manned mars landing a lot more likely.

Alliteration!

You know, that sounds crazy... but it's so little ice that it's not implausible.

If I saw like a frickin' huge lake or someshit, then it wouldn't be as suspicious lol...

Also, Occam's Razor. I'd like to just add that as a rebuttal.

WHo says they are rocks? The fact that the disapear is what makes this find plausible to water that is melting. Otherwise it just looks like rocks. That's what NASA said "WTF did those rocks disapear????" And thus the discovery that followed.

Rocks don't disappear, it's ice melting. The lander watched the ice sublimate for four days.

This doesn't really come as a surprise, as Mars has had ice for a long time, and in no small quantity, namely at in its polar ice caps.

It's a surprise because it's thought the ice at the poles is carbon dioxide ice, not water. As far as I know we haven't had any good studies done of the poles to find out 100% what they are.

Nah, it's not a surprise. Scientists don't speculate beyond ice. We know ice is there, and that's all that's really gone into it. The reason it wasn't a surprise is because it was thought to be one of two things. If it were Einsteinium up there then we might be surprised.

BUT DEM ALIUMS BE MOOVIN DEM ROCKS
