[edit] Dynamic lighting and shadowing 2 A new dynamic lighting and shadow mapping system is being developed for Source, replacing the somewhat limp existing system.[2] [3] It will launch with the various other new Source features with Half-Life 2: Episode Two, expected to be released Q3 2007. this may be what i read. it was to release with HL2 EP2 |

it's about time they upgraded the shadowing system, it's really crummy as it is now. i remember playing hl2 for the first time and thinking there was something wrong with the settings, so much horrible was the shadowing system

Yeah, shadows look so bad in Source that we're considering disabling them entirely until Valve releases Ep2 (and hopefully an SDK update soon after). I mean, not only do they look bad, they often project in ways totally contrary to the percieved lighting in the scene.

That planar laziness that is source shadows are projected in 1 direction, usually the skybox source (or whatever the 'master' lighting is)
As such yes, it doesn't change from room to room at all |

Source is made to be constantly updated not rebuilt time after time like Unreal.
