I just finished it, I liked it. It was a lot more jumpy than before, but it seemed kind of short. If you're willing to pay $20 for 4 hours of gameplay, you should definately get it.

* * Semi-Spoiler * *

Things that were answered in Episode 1

- How Alyx and Freeman got out of the citadel.
- What stalkers are...
- Some more history about the combine.
- If you mix a zombie with a combine, you get a Zombine..hehe..get it..zombine!

I'll be playing it later. But by second-hand review I can say it's apparently awesome, except that the teaser or whatever it is at the end doesn't work (at least, not for my brother. I dunno).

Go back and watch the credits, and wait until the HL2 logo fades away, the game will reboot and you can watch the teaser for episode 2...which is fucking awesome btw.

The stalkers had so much potential, hopefully they'll turn up again. Thought they could've been used more.

I thought zombines were lame, great "new" enemy....

It's alright, not worth $20 imo. It advances the storyline (I love the storyline) but not enough for the pricetag.

The music IS sweet, I've always thought the half-life games have had the best music in video games.

Good music. The HDR is fully implemented and it looks like some of the textures and physics got a little tweaking. The lightning gravity gun returns in the first chapter I love that thing.

Quoting myself from halflife2.net forums:

I was, though, waiting for it to be little longer and to have new tools to dispatch those who'd get in the way. Also those flares should've lit wider area.

None the less it's a brilliant episode and after finishing it on medium, replaying on hard with commentary on sounds fun.
And yeah, stalkers could've been in a greater role as 1 on 1 enemies rather than occasionally breaking generators and fucking around.

I love it, worth the $20 for me (forgot to preorder the night I preloaded, doh.)

I find it quite a bit harder than HL2, Ohcanep has the right of it, I died quite a few times and not from messing around either. I hope it takes less than 2 years to get Ep 2 out!

It came out 3am for me, finished it at 7:30am, slept, woke up at ~4pm, finished it with commentary

Only thing is the combat is still not that great compared to hl1.
F.E.A.R raised the bar in that respect, they just have to raise it again.
Oh and I didn't care for the escort part.

I'd say more good stuff happens in it than HL2, it's just more compact.
Imagine it x3 then compare it to HL2 and it's easily worth the money.

plus they went kinda nuts on phsysics-like puzzles
*dont stand between the car do and dog*
(hates zombines)

Zombines are great, they have the voice devices going which makes for really cool sounds. They are also crazy strong on hard(anything else is for pussies), takes about 4 shotgun blasts to the head to kill em.

So I just finished it - from 10 AM to 2 PM - with taking a lunch break too. I'm dissapointed. For $20 it was way overpriced and contained elements from HL2 I hated - like using the gravity gun exclusively. I want guns dammit, not a gravity gun.

And that part with the strider at the trainyard had me perplexed for a while until I figured out how to get up on the third level (after wasting all my ammo on the strider bitch).

Blah, and there was that huge ant lion bitch and the part where Alyx can get you're not allowed to stand which was gay as I had to run around and be antlion bait while that guy raped me 3-4 times.

Maybe if these things were longer and $10-15 cheaper I'd be a little happier about my purchase. But for $20? Fuck no don't buy this. Nothing of the story gets developed... it's another HL2 cliffhanger... bleh.

EDIT:

And the whole zombine thing, that's the only new enemy, lame. The only thing this new episode adds are maps... so I'm paying $20 for new maps and to "develop the story further" which imo it was not developed any further at all as nothing was resolved like I previously said. Bleh again!

EDIT: EDIT:

Yeah, that episode 2 preview shit didn't play for me either - was just a black screen (so I watched it just now). I hope the shit is cheaper than $20 next time.
