New Map Idea: Streets

Teams:
Red, Green, Yellow.

Map:
  • A tall fortress-style spire/building complex in the middle of a city block. Playable area of city continues out for another 2 blocks in all directions (with buildings you can enter to snipe & such).
  • 4 capture points in different parts of the spire/building complex.
  • Each team spawns in the back of a 'truck' which they can drive around. Trucks can be destroyed (and sent back to the edge of the map) by a Demoman's detpack. This also resets that team's command points.
  • Blue AI 'police' team periodically arrives to attack players.
  • Objective: Capture 3 of the 4 command points for your team

Thoughts? Criticisms?

i cant remember seeing the 'parent' parameter in player spawns, otherwise a lot of things can be done. But make that vehicle a HL2 vehicle, like the jeep, not a thruster based moving object

I could imaging playing CTF in the streets of City 17. Would be good fun.

I remember a map like this in Unreal Tournament, too.

Yeah, I don't specifically recall - but if not, I can parent an info_target to the vehicle and just teleport people right when they spawn.

I'd really like to make it a model, but there aren't many people making models out there, and this one would have to be pretty specific (have enough space to spawn players, big enough to provide protection, etc.) that I might end up having to make it a brush-based model myself :-/

This is quite an undertaking, and I'm waiting to work on it till the idea is developed more. Though I can see a map like this being played profusely (if its designed and textured right).

Yeah, I know I'm a few weeks late to the thread, but here's my 2 cents.

I say drop the blue team idea; I just don't like the way it feels. And also, I say just leave the spawns at the edge(s) of the map altogether. Put a teleporter to the truck in the spawn area, but do not force them to use it. This sounds like a less glitchy way of doing things, and spawn camping shouldn't be a major problem. This would be a really neat map to see, and I absolutely love the maps that follow different/unique game styles.
