ADSL question
Just wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to have ADSL internet without having a phone line activated. I got the line and the jacks in the house, it's just not used and I don't plan on using it cause I got a cell phone.
So do I need the home line to be activated for the phone before I can use it for ADSL? Also, I'm looking to buy a good router and modem. I found the router I want which is the DIR-655, but I have no idea what modem to buy. Any suggestion? |

Yeah it should work, just don't forget to put ADSL splitters on all your contacts.

You mean filters? Cause splitters I don't see why I would need em.
Aren't filters for when you wanna use the phone so it doesn't disconnect the internet? |

if you were in the UK i think you would still need to pay for line rental on top of ISP costs

But yeah, if I can't find a better modem I'll just buy it from them I think it's something like 100$ for a OvisLink OV303R2. And yeah, no phones. |

Sometimes it's just best to get it from them.
When shit starts going wrong, that'll be the first thing they tell you. "It's your modem, and since it's not ours we can't help you". You won't need filters, and yes you can get it without paying for a phone line. I do the same thing, I just get internet and use my cell phone. |

Ok so apparently it'll cost me 10 bucks a month on top of the regular fee to be able to have ADSL without having a phone number on the line.
They call it a dryloop, and guess what, they charge for it. Oh and it also costs 25$ more to setup than if it wasn't a dryloop. Surprised? hahaha... I guess they're losing quite alot of money since cell phones became popular. Alot of people don't pay for a home line anymore so yeah... |
