Character Class Conceptual Designs - Started yet?
Considering the calibur of work I'm seeing in your media section, I would like to contribute to this project. I have over 15 years of professional illustration experience, and have worked on comic books and video games in the past.
I'd be interested in drawing up some concept work for character classes, however, my time is valuable to me and I want to make sure I'm not wasting it by re-treading territory that's already been assigned to someone else. I can provide a conceptual or two if you need something quick to gauge my ability to do what i'm saying I can do, but I would need someone (of an official status in regards to this project) to tell me what class they would like to see drawn first (again, so I'm not "stepping on anyone's toes".) |

As specified by the Job Openings page on our website, we are still in need of a concept artist.
Send an email to fortressforever (at) gmail.com with the heading "FF Concept Artist" and tell us a bit about yourself plus provide some example works. If you would like to submit a character concept as part of your application that would be even better. If you would like to get some direction in terms of the theme and style of models we're looking for please email us first and we can get a dialogue going. I'd rather not discuss the specifics here at this time |

Having a comic book artist for a concept artist would be excellent.
In my head i'm seeing original TFC models but with high detail and expressions from the good old style marvel comics. In fact I would say that character models that look like they've been lifted from comics (original designs of course) would suit the mod much more then photorealistic models that a lot of hl2 are aiming for. This would support the arcadey-ness of TFC and provide a unique visual style. Maybe i'll elaborate more later. |

Something like REEGO's work: http://www.wirthless.com/flash/moon.html (one of HOS's old flash intros) |

This might also be a bit unexpected, but consider this a bit of a heads up on me closely submitting a job application for the same field. But since I'm more eastern-orientated style (manga, so forth), I can do most with weapons and other such gadgetry. Just need a bit of time to complile whatever you're going to sample =P

Cartoon-style models would be groovy, as long as they aren't overdone. However, I don't think that such models should be the in-game default. If you ask me, default player models should be relativley simple, while still having a decent look and feel.
I'm sure that everyone used the cartoon-style models at some point during their TFC tenure, but making stock models in that style is something that should be avioded. For every one person that likes 'toon-style models, I tink it's safe to say there will be two people who don't like them. |

I have also got to say that the style of models in that flash movie are really good and inkeeping with tfc. Please dont go all futuristic and ultra modern!

Aye, please be careful when you say 'cartoony' because a cartoon is in essence a character drawn with exaggaration which is not what I was refering to. I was refering to Comic style which is a more stylised look ala that flash.

No, Cell shading is different. Ever played Viewitful Joe? That's a game with Cell Shading effects. Granted I'm not to sure as to how it's done, because I never had the patience to research it.. but I bleieve it's done by using shading effects, or effects of a simialer result to ad not just color, but a 3D look to a character without needing a full out 3D engine.
For FF though... I don't really think Cell Shading is the best approach, or even possible. (Again, I honestly don't know) A comic book level however, that would look very cool if it could be done. The general llook of the game seemed artistic. Referring to the OLD models of course, although I personaly enjoy the new... eh. I'm on a line. Too many things would look cool. |

Erm ney, cell shading uses some shading algorithms that give 3D models outlines and/or flat colours so that they look more like illustrations.
Good examples are: XIII http://www.xiii-thegame.com/ss/PC_02.jpg http://www.xiii-thegame.com/ss/PC_09.jpg http://www.xiii-thegame.com/ss/PC_05.jpg Zelda Wind Waker http://www.authorisedcollection.com/...creenshot1.jpg http://www.nintelligent.net/gamemedi...5_gcn_ss47.jpg etc etc http://www.futuregamez.net/ps2games/amodel/amodel2.jpg http://www.futuregamez.net/ps2games/.../furfight1.jpg Edited - Please don't steal bandwidth from sites by using images directly from their site. I changed the img tags to url. Some sites have a nasty habit of changing leeched images to goatse etc.. |
