'Hacking' a router?

So my sister is a bitch, she doesnt live here anymore an yet she is the only one with the password to our router, i keep telling her i want one port open so i can run a FF server. But the bitch dont listen and keep saying that it'll make hackers kill our computers(my moms and mine) but the thing is we hate each other so she should be happy if my computer dies, and mom got a perfectly fine firewall on hers + the port would be occupied by the server.

So, i want something that can "figure out" the password to my router so i can open one port. Is there anything thats safe to use when it comes to this?

Also i wonder if theres any solid arguments against her argument that itll leave an open door for hackers with one port open(itll be occupied aswell)?

what brand is it, and does it have a reset switch ... you shouldn't need a password if it has a reset switch, and brand name = lookup pdf of instruction manual on net for default pw.... then unblock port for ff... set up router for ff and allow only its use for the server, should have no problems with anybody , but then again you might want to find out from actually server hosts for more
-edit from what i hear your area could use more ff servers , so good luck / also you need quite a bit of upload bandwith for a stable server, and as you may already know , downloading and uploading will hinder server performance , unless your just talking about a non-dedicated one where you would be just hosting to get a game in

Baron: I've tried the default pass and it aint it, its a:
NETGEAR ProSafe 802.11g Wireless Firewall/print server.
Model - FWG114P

And its got something in it that looks like it could be a resetbutton, kinda like those resetbuttons the tamaguchi's had. Think that its? And what happends if i press it?

Drunken Retard: Aight nice.

well when you press it ( and mostlikely hold it down for a few sec's ) it resets to the stock settings wich is, well what ever netgears settings are , might be wide open or on lockdown mode. i say look really close to it and see if it says 'reset' and then find something small enough to fit in there like a paperclip or what-have-you , look up the instruction manual on the net and find out how to work it, or see if it has a online in brouser help while inside the settings.. mostlikely you will gain access by typeing the ip address into your brouser 192.168.1.1 and then it should pop up and ask for a login and password.. some standards are usually administrator & password the manual should say...

One last question. After i've reset it, will i simply have to plug my internet cable into the router and my computer will get internet? Of course i will have to set up wireless stuff for the wireless comps but mine is not wireless.

If i put the internetcable directly into my computer i get internet, so i guess that is a yes?

well, best to take all the pc's/internet off the router except yours, then just leave it how it is and then when you reset, the network should go down for a sec then you can do the 192.168.1.1 and type whatever the stock setting pw and router is in, but if your sis comes back ever and tries her pw its not going to be the same ... then when you set it up to how you want (refer to the manual posted, if its not the same search the

with manual and pdf on the end and you should get it to come up with it , im at work so dont have much time to look it up fully... anywho after its all set up how you want plug in the net and rest of computers and restart them.. should come up how you want, it might not be nessasary to unplug them all, a while back i had a crappy linksys one that required them all to be like that or it would not let me connect to the internet again,, make sure all the lan cables are pluged in how they were also

Yes, you will have to re-do the wireless set up.
Infact, if you don't know how to do that, I wouldn't mess with that.

Mainly because wireless security is a BIG issue. You don't do it right and the next month the cops are at your door for the 7TB of child porn your neighbors are hosting off your IP...

Hell, if they were able to hold/find 7TB of child porn, I'd give them a pat on the back.

Coronius: Just make sure not to change the password to something she would expect you to write, like "cock" or "manberries".
