'Hacking' a router?
So my sister is a bitch, she doesnt live here anymore an yet she is the only one with the password to our router, i keep telling her i want one port open so i can run a FF server. But the bitch dont listen and keep saying that it'll make hackers kill our computers(my moms and mine) but the thing is we hate each other so she should be happy if my computer dies, and mom got a perfectly fine firewall on hers + the port would be occupied by the server.
So, i want something that can "figure out" the password to my router so i can open one port. Is there anything thats safe to use when it comes to this? Also i wonder if theres any solid arguments against her argument that itll leave an open door for hackers with one port open(itll be occupied aswell)? |

-edit from what i hear your area could use more ff servers , so good luck / also you need quite a bit of upload bandwith for a stable server, and as you may already know , downloading and uploading will hinder server performance , unless your just talking about a non-dedicated one where you would be just hosting to get a game in |

One last question. After i've reset it, will i simply have to plug my internet cable into the router and my computer will get internet? Of course i will have to set up wireless stuff for the wireless comps but mine is not wireless.
If i put the internetcable directly into my computer i get internet, so i guess that is a yes? |

well, best to take all the pc's/internet off the router except yours, then just leave it how it is and then when you reset, the network should go down for a sec then you can do the 192.168.1.1 and type whatever the stock setting pw and router is in, but if your sis comes back ever and tries her pw its not going to be the same ... then when you set it up to how you want (refer to the manual posted, if its not the same search the

Just reset the router... then change the password.

Yes, you will have to re-do the wireless set up. Infact, if you don't know how to do that, I wouldn't mess with that. Mainly because wireless security is a BIG issue. You don't do it right and the next month the cops are at your door for the 7TB of child porn your neighbors are hosting off your IP... |
