The Wiki needs YOU to make Map Guides!

DON'T WORRY; IF YOU SUCK AT WIKICODE, I OR ANOTHER WIKI EDITOR WILL FIX THINGS UP FOR YOU! JUST PUT YOUR INFORMATION ON THE PAGE AND WE'LL GET IT FORMATTED!

If you've visited the Wiki recently, you've probably noticed that we're in dire need of map guides. Most of us know jack-shit about map strategies, so we're turning to you, the community, to make guides. We have some formatting crap that should be followed if you can do it, though.

1. TRY TO FOLLOW THE FORMAT(if you can)!
Formatting helps us keep a consistent style throughout the guides. Here's a basic breakdown.

Overview
Describe the map goals, atmosphere, etc.

Locations
Describe, discuss and show pictures of important places such as capture points, where the flag is, key parts of your base, resupply areas, spawn rooms, what's in bags, how offense and defense should treat certain areas, etc.. Be sure to mark new sections with the ==(Text)== tag so that readers know when the next section starts. Don't worry about making a Table of Content; the Wiki will automatically do that once you make a certain amount of sections.

If you feel that a section of the map needs an in-depth analysis, create a section for it by going to the URL-shower in your browser, type in /(part you want to describe) at the end of your guide's URL, and make it. Be sure to link back to it!

If you want to have a handy navbox that goes between the different pages of you guide, insert http://www.fortress-forever.com/wiki...avbox/Mapguide, where 2 is the previous section and 3 is the next section.

Offense and Defense strategies
Make a section for offense and defense so that people have a basic idea of what areas to cover when playing as offense or defense (like the upper slope in shutdown2 for defense. Integrate this into the location pages if you want to.

Advanced
Put strategies that might need some time or practice here. Or, you can integrate them into the main location or offense and defense sections. Your call.
2.Use pictures!

I can't stress how important this is! Marking ideal sentry gun, sniper and defense positions, along with arrows indicating paths will be a world of help for newbies! I've taken pictures of important landmarks in various maps for anybody to use; they're at the end. If don't have Photoshop and want to mark locations, go to www.gimp.org, and download GIMP.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. Notice the key at the bottom of the image.To do this, click on the image button (picture of a photograph) at the top of the formatter and put in|(your text) after the image's name. Or, you can put the key in the image's description before you upload it.

3. Use the talk pages!

Communication between people working on a map page is essential to making a great guide. To use the talk pages, go to the top of a page and click on the "discussion" tab. Make sure to sign your posts by typing "--~~~~" at the end of your posts.

4. Explain things!
These guides are designed for newbies, so try to explain map-specific terms they night have no idea about.

To make your own pictures, click on "create server", pick the map you want to cover, and start the game. Once in the map, go to the console, type in sv_cheats 1, impulse 200, cl_drawhud 0 and finally noclip. The pictures shouldn't be in widescreen. Once you're done, go to the console and type in "cl_drawhud 1", or you won't be able to see your HUD when you play on a real server!
