Well, they did it. They made TF2 an MMORPG

Well, if they go through with this, im offically deleting TF2 and playing FF only. Fuck MMORPGs. and it'll pass because all the little valve kiddies will support w/e they do no matter what. I didnt pay for an RPG. I payed for a unique, well balanced, fun FPS. Grenades? IN TF2?! They're fun in FF, but in TF2 it blows all balance. RANDOM WEAPON DROPS?! Valve's off their nut if they are serious.

Team Fortress 2 should not be taken seriously. That is the problem. Everyone bred on Fortress Classic and the original Quake TF judges it with the wrong standards. It's a fun, whacky, comic game that I enjoy from time to time. I don't take it seriously, I just play and have fun. If I want grenades and faster movement, concussion grenades, grenades in general, and all that jazz; I play the original, classic, or Fortress Forever. Judge it for what it is, not what you think it should have been.

Post should read "If I want grenades, faster movement, and all that jazz" considering I listed grenades multiple times. Why the fuck is the edit function removed? Apparently, it disappears a few minutes after you make the post. It served a legitimate use. What a waste.

i don't care what they do to tf2, i'm already starting to get bored of it since i got it about 3 weeks ago..
there's nothing new to discover/learn, achievements were fun while they lasted but after you get most of them, it takes the replayability out of the game

there's nothing serious about tf2, it's a fun game but nothing more really
you should be glad they're updating it, even if it's stupid or not, it's new and keeps it interesting for a while longer

Exactly how I feel. Unfortunately Valve seems blissfully unaware of this. I guess they finally learned that the hardcore QWTF/TFCers are a dying breed and an audience seeking a "fun, whacky, comic game" yields more money and appeal. Sad but true.

Granted, I still enjoy them both, I just wish Valve showed the slightest interest in pleasing older fans.

Well of course they care about the "almighty dollar". They're a business. Businesses exist to make money. A commercial video game developer as high-profile as Valve would be insane to cater to a small, hardcore group of fans at the expense of the general gamer public. Some independent developers can get away with it because their sales figures are small enough that the demographic really doesn't matter, but Valve, if they made something like Fortress Forever as a flagship commercial product, would stand to lose huge amounts of money (we're talking seven figures), especially when TFC itself is still alive and well.

Also, how do randomized weapons and costume customization make a game an MMORPG? It's missing pretty much every other feature of an MMORPG, like the monthly charges, the item hierarchy (many of the unlockable weapons aren't any better than the regular ones--they all have disadvantages relative to the defaults, and some, like the Kritzkrieg and Natascha, are arguably worse than the regular versions), indivdual character stats (one Medic is just the same as another Medic), NPCs, quests, and, oh yeah, TF2 is neither massively multiplayer nor an RPG.

Not to mention that the item drops and stuff like that are nothing but pure speculation with zero actual evidence behind them.

But forget all that, let's make wild conjecture, scream that the sky is falling, and complain about TF2 for not being TFC and Valve for not making a game without a significant (to a large developer) market to sell to. Such small user bases are best served by mods. In fact, there is actually a mod aimed at hardcore TF/TFC fans out right now. I think it's called Fortress Forever or something.

I myself play both FF and TF2 and enjoy them for different reasons. I think both are excellent games that should be judged on their own merits and independent of each other or TFC.

But never mind all that, OH NO! MMOs THE HORROR! They might add customizable hats for players that likely won't even do anything! God save us all!

Wow, you found hats and a bunch of features that have already been in the game for a long time (the level ___ weapon thing applies to current unlockables, but doesn't mean that they're actually better, as I said, usually the unlockables are more specialized and have glaring weaknesses) and some various stat buffs/nerfs that have mostly already been used in current unlockables. The only really new thing is the hats. Big deal.

Not everything there is current. Some coding there can give you a hint that there's going to be a grenade as a unlockable, and hats, I agree, big fucking woohoo, a fro, but yeah... Nor you or I, or anybody can decide what can happen to this game.

listen im not complaining about how TF2 is not like FF. im saying i dont like it because they're changing it beyond TF2. I love TF2 to death, but this will throw all balance out the window and into the street. Not only that, im just not into random weapons. neither is the entire steam forums board

The random weapons are pure speculation and may or may not exist. They might just add additional unlockables, or just add unlockables to the classes that don't have them right now and leave it at that. People are taking conjecture and treating it as truth.

I like how abilities such as increased clip size and firing rate are suddenly a diabolical MMO bastardization of TF2, but simply a matter of course in the recent Call of Duty games.
