Oh I didn't realize the licensees got access to everything. Must be some serious NDA shit going on then. Not to mention working on any open source game engine related project ever again being a legal risk.

If they really had access to everything then TA just earned an extra 20 failpoints.

Yeah, when you license the Unreal Engine 3 engine you get full C++ code access. UDK only gives you UnrealScript code access.

Already read the previous discussion, but take a look at this.

Black Mesa's up on greenlight.

Originally, it asked people if they would buy the game it it were released on steam, but they added a "Free to play" tag to the game and it changed to "Would you play this game if it were available on Steam?"

Looks like VALVe does allow mods after all.

Black Mesa was approved as one of the first 10 Greenlight games to be added to Steam. Some of the other games in this first round of Greenlight games are also mods. From the looks of it, the "free to play" tag helps getting it on Steam.

I was reading something about getting enough votes to be considered for greenlight submission (aka, get popular enough to be considered)...

...how the hell would we get something like 100k votes for FF? D:

Magic. No idk. It does seem a tall feat. But just being submitted to GL would be great advertisement for us. There are likely tons of people browsing GL submissions all the time, to see what's up and coming and cool. Just being on GL a lot of people will see us, it depends on wether or not they like what they see.

Also we could spam reddit and what. It'd be nice if more people sent me footage instead of the same 3 people, then I could even put out an avi around the same time.

Maybe tell the folks over at BMS about being able to vote for us on Greenlight.

I know there's almost 4k people on the Fortress Forever Steam community.

What other outlets could we find? catacombs? oz fortress?

Catacombs, meh, I thought they didn't like FF?

OZ Fortress might be a good bet, along with the FF Steam group.

Maybe /r/gaming, /r/games, /r/tf2, /r/fortressforever (hah!), /r/indiegaming, /r/steam, /r/freegames, GameSpot, IGN, ESReality, NeoGAF, Steam forums, etc.

It might be foolish/squandering an opportunity, but I'd like to get 2.45 released before submitting to Greenlight. If there is a large new influx of players from Greenlight, there are some changes in the patch that I think would help us keep some of them (like a non-horrible class selection screen).

Cool. If BMS can do it, I'm 100% sure FF will be greenlit when you submit it. Make a post on the homepage and community pages when it happens and the community will take it from there.

100% sure? I mean sure we'll get tons of votes but didn't BMS get over 100k or some crazy figure like that?

It's still unknown exactly how many votes within how much time a mod has been submitted onto Greenlight, to see how well a mod is doing or how much of a chance the mod has of being greenlit.

We'll just have to wait patiently,however sometimes getting lots of votes doesn't mean that it will get greenlit(accepted for Steam). For example, Slender:Source have the most number of votes before Black Mesa was put on Steam, and it wasn't greenlit.
