maybe a dumb question, maybe not.

is steam going to put ff up on the mods list for everyone to be able to download? or are they going not put it up there so less people find out and go to tf2? just a question, may have been asked already... sorry if it has.

We can't say for sure, but we aren't expecting to be added to the list.

probably not going to happen. however it's not going to be done deliberately against ff as no third party mod ever has had this possibility.

Have you guys ( the dev team) looked into using Vapour as another way of distributing your mod as well?

http://www.vapour-online.com/

Works the same as Steam, for those that dont know about it and specializes in 3rd party mods etc.

What would be really invaluable would be for somebody to create an auto updater for the win32 and Linux dedicated servers.

Yea you still need steam running for hl2. Vapor pretty much works similar to steam in content deliverly, minus the pre-loading of files and a couple other things. Also its a another way for 3rd prty mod developers to host thier content any any users what use vapor will see any new games added. It has mods listed for quake, bf2, HL series doom3 and a few free standalone games as well.

The guys over at vapour have gone dormant. Its hard to find anything with the spam bots living in their forums.

I don't know, but what I'm pretty sure about is that someone has registered just to get a rise out of people..

I have also been having problems with the stupid spam bots on my site. I have to delete about 15+ fake posts per week (15 or so is the average, some weeks its TONS, other times its very few) but the forum wasn't the part that was the worst affected. I had it so that users could add comments to news posts, files, and file requests on the site without registering, basically it was:

Nick:
Title:
Comment:
SUBMIT

Well... I havn't checked the request comments in a while, and when I did last week what I found was astonishing... Over 1,000 spam comments posted, over 750 comments were added to 1 request post. Anyhow, all of these were deleted and now a CAPTCHA image security system is in place, and I'm now watching the situation very closely. (No more posts have been made since the system was added) Hows this related to vapour? Basically I'm saying that even though the site may appear to be completely abandoned judgeing soley by the bot posts may not be the most accurate way to base this judgement. I mean I'm on my site daily and still didn't notice all of those posts. [Though I must admit the reason why is because only new POSTS are scripted to notify me and others users that there is new content in that section, if a new comment is added, it's up to the user who submitted the request to check back later. I'm now working on new code to notify me when so many comments are being added, and other ways to monitor and prevent spam] (Hopefully the vapour team is working behind the scenes... :/)
