I have always wondered why people use l33t speak. It is personally the most annoying, banal, pointless, and quite frankly horrifying maltreatment of the English language that an internet minority has unforgivingly bestowed upon the overwhelming majority of the gaming community.

Why can't people type properly, why can't they use basic grammar, capitalisation, punctuation?
I reluctantly accept that people will sometimes shorten expressions for the sake of saving their stubby fingers physical overexertion. For example, stfu.
Also, in a gaming scenario it is acceptable, for people hardly want to spend their time typing grammatically sound sentences when they might be playing.
I admit that I am a hypocrite and I have in the past resorted to abbreviations, even in these forums. In my defence I say that I am a victim of society, and have been oppressed into using such drastic measures to ensure my survival, and to maintain that element of street-cred or internet-ghetto (if you will), without which I cannot effectively communicate with online gamers.
What really does tick me off is not the barely excusable use of abbreviations and grammatical neglect, but the intentional creation of error, for 'l33t' effect.

Consider the following abuses; pwn, teh, omgz, lolzor!!1!1

I shall not waste my time nor yours examining the self-evident flagrant rape of the above words (if they can be deemed that). This example alone should be enough to make you weep at the degeneration of your mother-tongue, your heritage, your right, even your country.

I'm indifferent, mainly because I use abbreviations such as lol all the time.

I hate l337 speak. I play WC3 a lot and the game is okay but the people who play are are dipshits. The only insult they know is noob, which isnt even the correct spelling because its newb, making them look like even greater dumbasses. Warcraft3's primary vocabulary consists of Fuck, Noob, Lag, Nigger and a huge assortment of 1337 speak words. My friends and i only use 1337 speak as a joke occasionally because that is exactly what it is, a stupid joke not to be taken seriously, which unfortunately is often the case. Whenever someone starts talking trash to me in 1337 speak on WC3 i get really pissed and usually end up telling them to either fly their fob asses back to china or learn english. Your net can become really slow for a few seconds and suddenly you have a "Noob connection"!.

Now that i think about it i just hate people in general... I was watching the price is right and Bob barker was like "Control the pet population, have your pet spayed or neutered " and i was thinking how about you spaye or neuter yourself so we wont have to deal with your moronic offspring.

I hope i didnt just derail this topic, i was just opening the steam valves for a bit.
