You know, perhaps the EU and the US has joined the wrong side of this Lybian conflict? The rebels are in no shape to win this civil war by themselves, and yet the United Nations vehemently refuses to send troops. So this country is heading toward a bloody and protracted strife with many civilian casualties on both sides.

Had the world allowed Coloniel Gaddafi retake Lybia, the rebels would have fleed to Egypt, Lybia would still be friend with Europe and America, oil would have been flowing from Lybia, and we wouldn't be paying for $4.00 gas. Meanwhile, bloodshed would have ended in Lybia.

Am I missing something here?

This whole thing wouldn't happen if the US wasn't selling $50 billion worth of military supplies to countries like Libya and Egypt, etc.

They don't contribute much in the way of the US's oil...the reason the price is so high is because the oil companies will use ANY excuse to raise the price. This is just another bullshit limp-dick excuse to gouge the little people.

Yep. The worst part, is that it has a trickle down effect, and raises prices across the board. Everything that is shipped costs more, and pretty much every penny of it goes to the oil companies.

While Libya has little direct affect on our oil supply I do find it interesting that much of what goes on in research of renewable energy is largely unknown to most of the public nor do they have any clue how hard it is to make advances in that area...

I truly wish people weren't so thick on this subject. Significant expansion of the ability of the US to develop it's own petroleum resources is something that needs to happen now. Providing even a small decoupling from oil production in volatile areas of the world is a great first step. There also needs to be better visibility of what goes on in development of renewables and the challenges experienced there.

The end result? The ability to aid a situation like Libya without being second guessed for trying to control world oil price fluctuation.

A large contributor to increase oil prices is a weak dollar policy and volatility. The fucked up thing is oil SUPPLY is high. And DEMAND has been falling a little.

crude oil futures price is going somewhat back down after that big spike up is the point I guess. I was going to attempt to tie it into the Libya news but I really have no idea, as I only look at the price technically not fundamentally. the end.
