Thinking Horrible Thoughts
I'm considering buying WoW. I know, it's horrible. But I have a serious lack of RPG in my diet and I'm starting to be convinced of this MMORPG's greatness..... halp!

Alright.
WoW isn't all that bad of a game, it's only cool to hate it because it's successful . Only a handful of people will hate it for valid reasons and those are mostly because they prefer to paly EQ2 crap instead of a dumbed down MMORPG. Anyways. Yeah, WoW is fun. You should try the trial first thought. |

Vicious. Go get Guild Wars. Sean, Eric, and I play it as our MMO substitute. No monthly fee+RPG type stuff.

This is coming from someone who recommends WoW and states that it's a dumbed down MMO at the same time. The MMO market is also bad at the moment with nothing notable being released in a long while. The next two major MMO releases will be released later this year, or early next year. GW is an RPG and is a good MMO substitute. To make it even more RPG like, it's got a story that you are actively a part of as well as cut scenes and other fun stuffs.

Dumbed down MMORPG because it was designed so even people that never played an MMORPG just start can get the hang of it, Blizzard apparently done it first since it's got 10 million subscribers, it's a number that doesn't really lie. Some mmorpgs are complex for nothing. Stop being a douche and let him try whatever the fuck he wants instead of saying "LOOKY, ME AND YOUR FRIENDS ARE PLAYING THIS, YOU TOTALLY SHOULD IGNORE WHAT YOU WANT AND DO WHAT YOUR FRIENDS WANT." Idiot. P.S. I need another beer. |

You've got a twisted vision of what the average player is really.
The average WoW player is really a middle class man with a woman that also plays wow. Wow has whole family playing it. Do your research, jack hole. |

I played the game for about a year and a half after it's release. I know all about the demographic. Again with the WoW aggression.

I used to hate it too, then I tried it and found it was fun. Seriously, there's a class for everyone. GW is pretty much Battle.net with a GUI. But I still should try it sometime.

It depends on if you do the PVP or not. The PVE portion of it is done rather well and is the first MMO-esque game to actually have a story arch that isn't just something in the background of the game.
Out of all the MMO's (I don't consider GW an MMO because it's completely instanced... but most people do so...) GW is the more traditional than the others. Instead of having the sort of 'create your own story!' theme that just about every MMO has had, you have a definite role in the story as it plays out. Of course, after you beat the campaign that's about all there is. But that sums up about every RPG anyway. The PVP portion of it is exactly like B.net but with a GUI. My biggest complaint about the game is in the PVP. You're pretty much required to have all of the expansions and all of the skills unlocked in order to be competitive. On second thought, the community is the worst part about the game. Coincidentally, the instancing part of it alleviates it.
