It is probably going to partly be a forum popularity contest. The popularity part would be the ones the staff know have reasonably good talent.

postcount shouldnt mean shit, I have been watching this just as long as most of these people, but just recently created a handle and posted once or some shit.
just a suggestion, but they should base it on play experiece / amount of time available to dedicate to testing. dont know how they would judge that so looks like all the people who sit and watch the forums are screwed. YOU GUYS SHOULD LET US HELP YOU, not make us hate you by excluding your most hardcore fans. the people who are playing HL/HL2 all day instead of sitting here on the forums like whores. nuff said... |

hate to burst all your guys bubbles but i highly doubt anyone on this forum will get beta testing privelges. I talked to PF.sno and he said that everyone idlin in #404 is getting it. So the only way anyone has a shot at beta testing is if you knew/played with some of the devs during the TFC hey days. so we can all stop going back and fourth for no reason.

Actually, it was revealed to me by the path of a hawk through the sky that the beta spost for this first test will be decided by how witty each individual member is.
And we're talking volume here, not just who said the funniest thing. So all of y'all who want a beta position had better start spmming hilarious shit as fast as they can. |

I am new to this internet place, but I am expert at Team Fortress and am willing to help you beta test Fortress Forever because I am very generous. As someone else said, it would indeed be very foolish for only the people with the highest post counts to do the beta testing, because if you did that then you wouldn't have me as a tester ahahaloels!!.... So obviously there needs to be a better way to select testers, like how much their name sounds like mine for example.

The only beta announced thus far is the august one.
This beta is closed. Only close friends to dev team members are being invited to participate (i.e. people we trust to some degree). In future as the game is improved it will be opened up to more people. Quite how this is being approached is undecided - we'll cross that bridge when we get there. |

why announce a beta when its closed anyway? whats the point other than to tell us what stage its in. Back in the day that description ment something. Im talking about beta testing demos. But who am I kidding, those days are long gone.

With the exception of recent MMORPGs, I can't recall a period of commercial videogame history where betas were frequently given to the public. Demos and shareware maybe, but those were never betas.

Depends how you define 'recent'. I view the whole MMORPG genre as being a recent development, since it only really started picking up speed around 2000 onwards.
Still, it's an uncommon practice outside of MMORPGs to offer open betas. Of course FF isn't a commercial game, but we said we wanted it polished on the first release hence the beta is closed. |

So why even announce it to be closed where "open" isnt even an option?
and yes i was referring to mods mostly, there were a couple of games which I cant recall atm. |
